The annual meeting of the stock-holders of the Brown County Agricultural society, at the Commercial club rooms Friday evening, was one of the most enthusiastic held in years. According to the report of Secretary Wm. A. Lindemann the obligations of the society will be but $4,339.98 after the bills receivable are collected. This is in the face of the fact that improvements have been made on the grounds this year entailing an expenditure in excess of $11,500. The net receipts of the Fourth of July celebration, which was sponsored by the Agricultural society and the Turner society were $5,800. This sum was divided equally between the two organizations, and assisted greatly to liquidate the cost of improvements made at the fair grounds this season. The total receipts of the Fourth of July celebration were $10,706.03, while the expenses amounted to $4,906.03, leaving a net profit of $5,800.

Mr. Lindemann informed the stockholders that the net profit of the fair this year was $4,459.53. President Ferd. Crone stated the past year has been one of the best enjoyed by been one of the best enjoyed by the organization, since its inception over fifty years ago, but that it was his de-sire to liquidate the indebtedness as soon as possible. He stated a woman’s building was almost imperative and that a new horse barn was also needed. He hoped some method of financing this building program would be put forth as he was not in favor of increasing the indebtedness of the society. Weather conditions were too uncertain and fairs might be hampered by several bad years.

The cost of a building, which would answer the purpose, was placed at from $15,000 to $20,000. The project is so large that other means of financing than through the receipts of the fair will have to be arranged. The sale of stock in the society is one method. It was pointed out blocks of stock could be placed, if a concerted effort was made.
