——–
County Auditor Louis G. Vogel has completed the work of determining rates for the cities and villages of the county, to be used to compute taxes, levied this year and to be collected next year. The New Ulm rate is considerably larger than the rate, employed to compute taxes last year, and collected this year. The increase is 15.6 mills. The rate last year was 52.4 mills, while the new rate is 68 mills.
This increase is primarily due to the larger tax levy made by the city council at the October meeting. Last year the levy was fixed at $60,000. An additional $20,400 was levied by the state for interest upon state bonds. The total levy for city purposes was thus, $80,400. The levy fixed by the council to be collected next year for city purposes is $125,000. This is an increase of $44,600.
The school levy is the same, $45,000.The tax rate for county purposes is almost one mill less than last year’s rate. The county rate by which taxes, levied last year were computed, was 10.02 mills, while the rate which will be used to compute county taxes to be collected next year is 9.1 mills.
The state rate is higher, last year’s rate being 5.78 mills, while this year’s is 7.70 mills.
Sleepy Eye Highest
The Sleepy Eye rate is the highest in the county, being 88 mills. Last year the rate was 84.7 mills. Springfield follows close behind with a rate of 85.8 mills, which is somewhat lower than the rate of last year, 90.8 mills. The rates of the villages of the county upon which taxes, to be collected next year, will be computed, follow: Comfrey, 57.4 mills; Hanska, 64.2 mills; Evan, 44 mills; Cobden, 44.8 mills. Last year’s rates follow: Comfrey, 62.2 mills; Hanska, 61.4 mills; Evan, 47 mills; Cobden, 44.4 mills.
