NEW LABORATORY LORETTO HOSPITAL

New Department, Installed Recently, Is Fully Equipped to Afford Facilities for Performing Various Tests Called for by Needs of Patients Sister Giovanni from St. Joseph Hospital Laboratory at Fort Wayne, Ind., in Charge.

The Loretto hospital of this city now has a modern and fully equipped laboratory for performing various tests called for by the needs of its patients. The new department was recently installed under the personal supervision of Sister Confirma, who has charge of the laboratory at St. Joseph’s hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.,and is in charge of Sister Giovanni, who, previous to coming to New Ulm, was employed at the same laboratory. The cost of the necessary equipment for the new laboratory here is approximately $1,500.

A wide range of tests, examinations and chemical analyses can be made in the new department, including all of the various blood examinations, bacteriological examinations, urine analysis, kidney function tests, stomach tests, sputum examinations and other chemical analyses pertaining to the needs of patients of the hospital. A number of guinea pigs have been purchased for the purpose of testing out various diseases. The laboratory is modern in every respect, and additional equipment will be secured as needed.
