Historian to present history of community bands

NEW ULM – Local historian Dan Groebner will host a presentation on Community Bands of Brown County as part of the Brown County Historical Society’s (BCHS) Lunch and a Bite of History series.

The program will take place from 12 p.m. Thursday, Oct 16 a the Brown County Museum annex.

Known nationally for its polka bands, Brown County has a long history of community bands as well. Town bands popped up everywhere, for as little as one performance to as many as a thousand. Some won state championships and national attention. Some filled a momentary need for music.

As a local history researcher and member of the New Ulm Municipal Band, Groebner will describe Brown County’s history of music and community bands.

Admission is free, but reservations are required. To reserve a spot or request more information, contact the Historical Society at education@browncountyhistorymn.org or call 507-233-2616.
