ATTENDANCE GOES TO 1,617 IN NEW ULM

Increase of 44 Pupils in Public and Parochial Schools of the

City This Year Over Last.

Holy Trinity Shows Decrease of 34 and St. Mary’s Increase of 14 When Compared With Last Year.

There were 1,617 pupils enrolled in the various public and parochial schools of the city upon opening day this year. Monday of last week the public and Lutheran parochial schools opened for the fall term. The total attendance in the high and different ward schools as outlined in last week’s Journal was 690, while last year it was 640. In the Lutheran parochial school, which opened the same day the attendance was 228; last year it was 214.

The Catholic parochial schools opened Tuesday of this week and there were 451 enrolled in the Holy Trinity school and 248 in St. Mary’s. The total of the public school and parochial school pupils was 1,617. Last year the enrollment was 1,573.

The Catholic Parochial Schools

This year upon opening day, Tuesday, the total number of pupils in attendance at the Holy Trinity Catholic parochial school was 451. This is thirty-four less than last year, when the enrollment was 485.

In the high school the enrollment was 77 exactly the same as that of last year. The enrollment in the different classes is as follows: Senior,12; junior, 15; sophomore, 21; freshmen, 29; Christian doctrine class, 20; 8th grade, 29; 7th grade, 36; 6th grade, 41; 5th grade, 54; 4th grade, 53; 3rd grade, 53; 2nd grade, 42 and 1st grade, 46.

Last year the enrollment was divided in the different grades, as follows: Senior, 14; junior, 12; sophomore, 21 and freshmen, 30. The enrollment in the other classes follow: Christian doctrine class, 35; 8th grade, 34; 7th, 36; 6th, 48; 5th, 50; 4th, 48; 3rd, 55; 2nd, 50, and 1st, 52.

St. Mary’s School

The attendance upon opening day, Tuesday, at the St. Mary’s parochial school was 248, an increase of 14 over that of last year, when 234 pupils were enrolled the first day. The different classes showed an enrollment as follows: Eighth grade, 27; 7th grade, 28; 6th grade, 32; 5th grade, 36; 4th grade, 36; 3rd grade, 26; 2nd grade, 34 and 1st grade, 29. The enrollment upon the opening day last year was as follows: Eighth grade,16; 7th grade, 30;6th grade, 30;5th grade, 35; 4th grade, 40; 3rd grade, 28; 2nd grade, 20 and 1st grade 35.

Attendance Increasing

The attendance in the various public ward schools as well as in the parochial schools is increasing and will for the next several weeks.
