More refugees arrive

AWAITING the coming of Nguyen Dinh, his wife Tran Thi Ngiem and their two children, volunteers from Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm completely remodeled a home at 308N. State in New Ulm. Working day and night on the home for approximately a month, the new face of the home was enhanced by night workers Dick Hudson (left), Pastor John Spencer and Walt Koeckeritz.

Two more Vietnamese refugee families were to arrive in New Ulm this afternoon.

A family of four is being sponsored by Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm, and two single men are being sponsored by Immanuel Lutheran Church in Courtland.

The latter refugees are friends of the Nguyen Van Tung family, who came to New Ulm from a refugee camp in Ft. Chaffee, Ark., a little more than a month ago.

Those two refugees will be staying with the Tungs.

LAST NIGHT, Our Savior’s held a pantry shower at what will become the home of the Nguyen Dinh family. Congregation members and others in the community donated household items the Dinhs will be needing.

Everyday essentials such as blankets and food are welcomed (top photo) from Mrs. Orville Royer by Mrs. Walt Koeckeritz (left) and Mrs. Dick Hudson. (Photos by Steve Kohls)

The family will be living at 308 N. State St. in New Ulm. Congregation members have been working on the house at that location for more than a month, preparing it for the family.

Dinh, 35, who had been a manager and newsman in South Vietnam, brings his wvife, Tran Thi Ngiem, 28, a former typist, accountant and radio station studio controller, and their two children: 2-year-old daughter, Nguyen Bao Thuy Anh and infant son Nguyen Tien Dat.

The refugees are the third and fourth Vietnamese households to move to New Ulm.
