Parade added to Heritagefest events

parade has been added to the four-day schedule of Heritagefest activities in August.

Chairman of the parade ,scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Aug. 24 through downtown New Ulm, is Dave Schweppe.

THEME WILL be the area’s heritage, kicking off observance of the Bicentennial year.

“We’re looking especially for units relating to our heritage or to the Bicentennial,” said Schweppe. “Pioneer-type floats would be especially welcome.”

Anyone wishing more information about the parade, or anyone with a parade entry, may call the Heritagefest office,354-8850, or write Box 261, New Ulm.

The parade will travel south on Minnesota St., starting at Fourth S. and ending at Fifth N.

Set on the concluding day of the Heritagefest celebration, the event will precede an afternoon and evening of festivities at the Brown County fairgrounds, including the final presentation of the outdoor spectacular, “Hermannstraum.”

ADMISSION to Heritagefest grounds will be through the purchase of a $1 Heritagefest button. Members of the New Ulm Retail Association will have buttons for sale at their places of business starting this week.

Miss New Ulm, Vicki Swanson, took Heritagefest buttons and brochures to Minneapolis officials last weekend when she was an Aquatennial visiting queen.

On Wednesday, she again will be carrying buttons during her appearance at a parade in Minnesota Lake.
