SWIMMING POOL UP TO SALE OF BONDS
Committee Will Become Active Monday in Offering Bonds to Purchasers for the Erection of the New Swimming Pool.-Ben J. Seifert Post, American Legion, Were Instrumental in Arousing Interest in Project.
As was announced in the Journal last week bids were opened for the erection of a swimming pool in North German park. The contract was not let, as certain changes were deemed necessary in the plans before this could be accomplished. The proposition of the erection of a swimming pool in New Ulm was advanced by Ben J. Seifert post, American Legion, at a banquet tendered the business men this spring. The Legion boys first thought it advisable to erect a dam in the Cottonwood river and bath houses nearby and thus furnish a suitable swimming place for the younger generation as well as the older people. After the work had advanced somewhat the swimming pool idea in North German park was advanced and City Engineer F. D. Minium drew plans and specifications for same and bids were called for and opened last week.
Finance the Thing.
Finance is the mainspring in the swimming pool matter, and a committee consisting of Harry Brand, chairman, J. A. Ochs, Jos. Epple, Jr.,Aug. Hummel, M. J. Bieber and Roman Lindemann, was named some time ago. This committee met the forepart of the week and the bonds, to finance the proposition will be offered to the public Monday of next week. They bear 5 per cent interest and it is expected will be liquidated from the earnings of the pool.
