Bridge at peak flood stage

THE COURTLAND cutoff bridge, that secret side door out of New Ulm, was to reopen at noon today, according to the city street department. It had been closed since April 24 because the road beyond the bridge was under water, as shown here in a photo taken Saturday ,looking west. The reading this morning at the Seventh N. river gauge showed the Minnesota River to be just below the bankful level. The river rose nine feet from April 15 to May 1 when it was at its highest this spring-three feet over bankful. (Photo by Ron Grieser) New Ulm Daily Journal May 8, 1975
