EFFORTS OF RAIDERS ARE AGAIN IN VAIN
Revenue Men Fail To Obtain Evidence In Second Raid Within Month.
Saturday afternoon at about 5 o’clock two cars loaded with men from the internal revenue department, enforcers of the national prohibition act, swooped down upon New Ulm and immediately proceeded to raid several of the soft drink places in this city. They started their search at the Chas. Lindmeyer place in the lower part of the city and then proceeded to search the soft drink parlors of Manderfeld & Tauer and A. J. Esser. However, they were out of luck, for in none of the places was anything found to indicate a violation of the national prohibition act. After making a thorough search in each of the places and obtaining no evidence the force again departed without making any “requests” as to the appearance of the proprietors.
Warrants Have Jokers
The warrants which the revenue men had to aid in the search of the premises stated that on “April 27, etc” some certain party had obtained a drink from such and such a place. As April 27 is still to come it is presumed that the raid either materialized too early or someone in the prohibition office made a mistake in dating the warrants. At any rate the raid was merely another way in which the revenue department gets rid of the tax payers’ money as it is doubtful whether conviction could be obtained with such a gross error in the warrant..
