Five Citles Were Represented

at a Meeting Held af

Owatonna Last Week.

NEW ULM PARTIES MAY BE PRESENT AT KATO MEET

——–

Communications Have Been

Received Here from Mayor Quinn of Faribault, Who Is League Pusher.

——–

It is possible that a number of the baseball fans will travel to Mankato Sunday and be present at a meeting called on the third floor of the City hall there at 1:30 o’clock that afternoon for the purpose of perfecting a league of cities in this part of the state, and put teams in the field the coming season.Communications have been received by several fans from Mayor Thos. Quinn of Faribault, who is the big noise of the league.

Had Matter up Before.

It will be remembered that several meetings were held in New Ulm last year for the purpose of arousing the interest of local fans in joining the Southern Minnesota league. The proposition went cold last spring, but there are those, who favor the pro-position this year, and therefore it is anticipated that a number from here will be present at the Mankato meeting Sunday.

Owatonna Meeting.

An eight team league, governed by rules, which will produce about the calibre of ball played last year, and a schedule calling for one game a week, found favor at the meeting of repre-sentatives of clubs interested in the Southern Minnesota Baseball league held last week at Owatonna.

Five towns were represented at the meeting-Owatonna, Faribault, St.James, Mankato and Blue Earth. Un-favorable weather conditions ‘kept away delegates of several interested clubs, while from some no word has yet been received by officials of the loop.

Next Meeting at Mankato.

Another meeting, at which it is expected all of the towns interested in the league wil be represented will be held in Mankato Sunday, at 1:30 p. m. on the third floor of the city hall. At this time, definite steps will be taken to get things into running order, probably decide the makeup of the loop, and settle various problems,so that the delegates can return to their homes and begin building for the onenine of the 1925 season.

New Uim Mentioned.

In addition to these five towns, New Ulm and-Albert Lea at present look like the best bets for two of the remaining berths, with the eighth club an uncertainty.

Tigers Want Berth.

Bad luck on the road kept the Albert Lea delegate from putting in an appearance, but the Tiger club is understood to want to take its old place in the circuit.

Waseca is not yet organized, although Mankato representatives were told that a ball team would be put in-to the field there. From Austin, Blooming Prairie, and New Richland,no word has been received by league officials or member clubs, and from present indications these three will not put teams in the league this season, although there is a possibility that Austin will. More definite word regarding these towns will be available at the Mankato meeting, at which all interested clubs will be invited to have delegates.

Other Towns Suggested.

Rochester and Fairmont were also suggested and will be invited to have envoys at the next session if they are interested. Little is known of the situation in these towns so far as desire to join is concerned. The Iowa-Minnesota circuit, in which Rochester-and Albert Lea, together with Mason City and Winona, were tied up last year, probably will not be in existence this year, because of the heavy financial losses suffered by member clubs, and whether the Mayo city will have a team is not known.

All delegates present were in favor of putting in the teams which will play the best ball possible and yet not prove to be such a burden financially that the future of the sport will be threatened. Salary limits, outside player regulations, extending boun-daries so as to make players residing in a bigger area eligible as home men playing union men, and other questions were informally discussed and further consideration postponed until the Mankato meeting.
