Lets Go! Where? To the Brown County Fair, at the County Fair Grounds in New Ulm on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, August 23 to the 27th. This is the fifty-fourth annual Brown County Fair and the association has made this year’s pro-gram the most complete in the history of the fair. Time and money have not been spared to make the 1924 County Fair the outstanding event of the year. It is known over the entire state that Brown County promotes one of the largest, and best county fairs staged in the state during the year. Unless you plan to attend the annual fair you will miss the big celebration of the year.
General Information.
Entries will be received in all departments until 6 o’clock Saturday evening,August 23, except in the cattle, swine and horse departments, the entries for the cattle, sheep and horses closes on August 21, and for hogs, August 18. No charge will be made to any exhibitor, either for entries or admission up until 6 o’clock p.m., Saturday, August 23. The fair opens at nine o’clock Saturday morning, August 23, and continues to Wednesday evening, August 27, at 10 o’clock p.m. A program of free attractions has been planned and the local band will give band concerts each evening. The free attractions will be given on the platform in front of the Grand Stand, at the afternoon and evening sessions.
Hoagland’s Hippodrome.
This company is one of the best numbers to be secured on the program of events for county fairs. The company presents an unprecedented series of thrilling sports on the race track, such as auto polo, the unrideable bucking mule, Roman standing races, hippodrome races, push ball, guideless horse running, thorough bred horse racing, eight horse chair elimination race, a laughing novelty, a roman chariot race of two teams with four horses, which will prove to be the most sensational of all Track events. The bucking ford is a comic and laughable event. The company consists of fourteen or more head of horses and fourteen people, and includes a complete auto polo outfit of five cars and five noted players. Hoailan’s Hippodrome is a fitting headliner for any program and will doubtless be one of the most popular attractions ever seen.
Vaudeville Attractions.
The Wilson-Aubrey Trio, comedy gymnasts, keep their audience laughing from the moment of their entry. The first outburst of merriment is caused by the grotesque make-up of the Trio. They lose no time in starting their series of thrilling and comical feats on the triple horizontal bars. They whirI, twist, slide and toss each other about on the bars in whirlwind fashion and in a most ridiculous manner.
This Trio also introduces a genuine novelty, a burlesque on wrestling. While two of the performers act as contestants the third plays the part of the referee, and while they are grasping a diversified number of holds that frequently bring the referee into the action they poke fun at the heavily muscled professional wrestlers.
Kasting Kays.
Having seen this attraction, Secretary Lindemann has made several unsuccessful attempts to secure them for performance at the Brown County Fair. This year they are among the leaders on the program. The Three Kasting Kays are admitted to be the world’s speediest mid-air gymnasts. This can be appreciated after witnessing their remarkable performances. For the cur-rent season, in order to be a little ahead of the procession, they have arranged the offering in a comedy atmosphere which is most acceptable.
These dare devils of the air perform such daring feats as throwing triple somersaults through the air a distance of twenty-five feet. The finishing trick of the act can not be described. It must be seen to appreciated. It thrills every audience.
Pete Troupe.
The Pete Troupe, three athletic appearing young men and a dainty, pretty young lady amazes its audiences with a remarkable skillful exhibition of foot juggling and acrobatics. They surpass most of the Japanese troupes in a form of entertainment that is usually associated with the Asiatics. They have a carefully prepared programs. They juggle hoops, barrels, and each other with ease and grace.
LaFrance Bros.
On Tuesday and Wednesday evenings there will be a big display of fireworks. The display shown at the Brown County Fair are generally equal to those shown at any stat fair’s and this year’s will be no exception as one of the biggest features obtainable, “the Eruption of Mt. Etna,” heads the display.
Children’s Camp.
As has been customary in former years when the County Fair has been held, a camp for the members of the boys and girls clubs in Brown County will be conducted at the Fair grounds by the fair association. The camp is in charge of capable person, who will have the children in charge. Tents with cots are provided for the boys, while tents with beds are arranged for girls who attend. Meals will be served and the cost for the children will be nothing. This part of the program is arrange to interest the youngsters in the fairs and to encourage them in their work in the clubs. More than one hundred children are expected to attend the camp this year, and all arrangements have been made for their care.
Doll Buggy Parade.
Wm. A. Lindemann, Secretary of the Brown County Agricultural Society, has been asked to put on a “Doll Buggy Parade.” The affair will be held in front of the grand stand and will consist of decorated doll buggies. Any child in Brown County and surrounding community is eligible to enter and all those who wish to participate should communicate with Mrs. Ed. C. Veeck, New Ulm.
Other Attractions.
A base ball game will also be staged during the fair. Names of the teams who will take part in the contest will be announced later. It is the intention to procure teams who have been playing league base ball this summer to play the game, and no doubt, it will be a fast game of ball.
Arrangements are being perfect this week to bring speakers of National repute to the city to give addresses during the fair. It will prove a real treat to the people to learn more of the political and economical conditions in the United States as they are today.
Fair A Leader
The Brown County Fair of 1924 is a headliner in the list of the county fairs to be given this season. There will be something doing every minute in an entertainment way, and the exhibits will be the best ever shown. Arrange the work so that the entire family can attend the fair and enjoy the program. The educational value can not be estimated, and the days spent at the fair will prove entertaining as well. Do not forget the dates–August 23-27, at the Fair Grounds in New Ulm. Everybody welcome. Come One–Come all, the Fair Association invites you.
