REDSTONE PLATS CHOSEN FOR 1924 GOLF COURSE

Members Stake Out Course And Plan Greens For 75

Acre Tract.

——–

New Ulm will soon have one of the finest golf courses for its size in this part of the state. At the last meeting of the New Ulm Club held in the Commercial Club rooms Wednesday, announcement of the leasing of the two Redstone tracts was made by the grounds committee. The rental of both pieces of land will total $265.The site which includes the 39 acre property of Mrs. John Wooldrik of Sleepy Eye and the 36 acres owned by the New Ulm Stone Company, will make a tract of 75 acres. It is hoped that the leases for this property will be extended for five years on each tract, with an option of purchasing, should that event become possible.

Course Staked Out.

Members of the club were at work Thursday and Friday staking out the nine-hole golf course. It will be necessary to burn off the grounds, remove underbrush, and cut down several tires from the Wooldrik property. In laying out the greens, pulverized red stone will be used for the sand green. This material is more satisfactory than the sand generally used because of the fact that it will afford a lasting solid footing. The course is in a splendid location, about two miles from the city near the bank of the old Minnesota river. Plans for erecting a club house and men’s and women’s toilets are under advisement.

Forty Members Enrolled.

Forty members have been enrolled in the club, with the dues at $25 per year. Many local women are taking an interest in the great sport and the membership will be enlarged materially before the season closes, as beginners have already expressed their intention of joining and enjoying this popular outdoor sport.
