NU FIlm Society to screen “The Fabelmans”

NEW ULM – The New Ulm Film Society will close out its Steven Spielberg director series with the 2022 film “The Fabelmans,” the director’s most personal film to date. The screening begins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14 at the New Ulm Public Library. “The Fabelmans” is a coming-of-age drama about a young man, Sammy Fabelman (played by Gabriel LaBelle), who becomes enamored with filmmaking at a young age and how that impacts the way he views his parents, Mitzi and Burt Fabelman, played by Michelle Williams and Paul Dano.  The movie begins in 1952 New Jersey with The ...

To the editor: I received a response from U.S. Rep. (Brad) Finstad regarding his use of misinformation and inflammatory language in his newsletter. I responded with a “Kudos for reining in your “blame the Democrats” game in your response. And for your willingness to participate in the bipartisan funding legislation that was put forward.” A step forward. I further challenged U.S. Rep. The Quilt Show is back The New Ulm Quilt Show is back. The show started Friday at the Royal Oak Event Center, but will continue from 9-4 p.m. Saturday and feature over 300 quilts on display. The Quilt Show is put on by the Prairie Piecemakers Quilt Guild and is unique in that it is held every other year instead of annually. In addition to the quilts on the display, visitors to the show will be able to shop at vendor booths for quilts and materials for making quilts. The 1986 Masters: a motivating factor for high school golf

I watch at least part of the Masters golf tournament every April, but this year it has a special meaning. It’s been 40 years since Jack Nicklaus won the 1986 Masters at age 46 to earn his sixth Green Jacket. I watched his entire final round and cheered for him every step of the way. The Golden Bear and Arnold Palmer are the two professionals that led me to try golf in the late 1970s. Palmer’s last major was in 1964 and his last tournament win was in 1973. Although the Journal is no longer a true daily paper, your newspaper brings us important local and regional news five times each week. To the editor: Our President has become the world bully. He is committing war crimes in Iran by bombing civilian infrastructure and has attacked boats in international waters with no proof of illegal activity. He is making demands rather than negotiating, and shows no interest in actually resolving anything. He seems bent on taking whatever he can, to increase his own sense of power. Is any of to benefit the U.S.? There should be diplomacy, efforts toward understanding, cooperation, peace… This man is destroying our standing in the world, our diplomatic ties, our connections. ...
