Unleashing prosperity through regulation

To the editor: In his 9/5/25 email to constituents, Rep. Finstad says he “was proud to be joined by Rep. Michelle Fischbach in welcoming EPA Administrator, Lee Zeldin, to southern Minnesota for a tour of Christensen Farms.” Under Zeldin, the EPA is busy “unleashing prosperity through deregulation.” Finstad is relieved that the EPA nixed a proposed rule that would have revised the 2004 wastewater treatment standards for meat and poultry processors. He expressed gratitude that the EPA “would not impose additional wastewater discharge regulations on processing ...

Trump’s promised a golden age

To the editor: Donald Trump focused on the economy throughout his campaign. He blamed Democrats for the slow post COVID economic recovery, riding to the presidency on promises of an immediate Golden Age. Instead, Trump’s policies have worsened the finances of most Americans. The nation’s job numbers went from lackluster in Trump’s first three months to dangerous levels over the summer. By August the labor market lost 13,000 jobs. The secret to long marriage

To the editor: As we were celebrating our 58th wedding anniversary this past August, the waitress in the restaurant asked what our secret was to staying together for many years? JoAnn and I both agreed that “thinking of the other person before thinking about yourself” is what makes it work. National Guard troops in U.S. cities alarming

To the editor: I am alarmed at seeing armed National Guard troops deployed into American cities — Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and next Chicago. This is purportedly about crime prevention, but it seems to me, it’s an attack on the poor and disenfranchised in our communities. We have historically tried to aid those more unfortunate than ourselves. Be kind, fellow Americans. Barbara Reilly New Ulm

Language matters — we can do better

To the editor: I read with interest Representative Finstad’s letters to the EPA regarding actions to address nitrate contamination in public water systems and underground sources of drinking water in the First District. The petitioners included Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy, Environmental Working Group, Minnesota Well Owners Organization, Center for Food Safety, Clean Up the River Environment, Food and Water Watch, Friends of the Mississippi River, Izaak Walton League Minnesota Division, Land Stewardship Project, Minnesota Trout Unlimited, and Mitchell Hamline Public ...

Big divide not with right vs. left

To the editor: We’re a divided country, but it isn’t right vs. left or red vs. blue. The big divide is between the extremely powerful wealthy and the vast majority of Americans...US. Most Americans are way more alike than different. The powerful use lies, spin, fear mongering, manufactured crises, and propaganda to keep the rest of us distracted and sniping at each other while they amass more power, More wealth. Enough. United, we are even more powerful than they are. So, let’s take our power back. It must start with campaign finance reform. Check out the plan of former Minnesota ...
