To the editor: Jimmy Kimmel made a joke about the right’s politicization of Charlie Kirk’s death. He accurately said that the president mourned Charlie Kirk’s murder the way a 4-year-old mourns the death of a goldfish. He said some other things, none of which seemed hateful, but the thin-skinned crybaby occupying the White House can’t stand for any satirical criticism, which has been a staple in our country for decades. Violence is not the answer

To the editor: Another shooting, another life taken this week with the killing of Charlie Kirk. It goes on and on. Deb Gau’s article on 9/12 quoted Rep. Sen. Gary Dahms, Rep. Sen. Paul Torkelson, Democrat Chairwoman Anita Gaul, and Democrat Chairwoman Lori Sellner. These representatives for Brown County (for us) were strongly in alliance to non-violence and speaking out how this has got to be stopped. Yes and no on political violence

To the editor: I join Paul Platz, Rep. Brad Finstad and Bishop Robert Barron in condemning political violence and praying for Charlie Kirk and his family. Yes. In his 9/17/25 letter to the editor, Paul insinuates that political violence is more prevalent among leftists in the United States. He says that Kirk was “always kind” and “should be considered for sainthood.” Rep. Finstad said that Kirk was “a true example of civil discourse” (“Finstad in the Field,” 9/12/25). Bishop Barron upped the ante on Fox News, 9/11/25, calling Kirk an “apostle” of civil discourse. ...

Blaming the left for violence

To the editor: I write letters to the editor. I try to share my Christian, conservative (right of center) views with anyone who might care to read or listen. I receive many words of support from passers by on the street. Words from people I know, and complete strangers who recognize me. I thank you all for the kindness. Freedom to speaking our mind is what United States is all about

To the editor: As Americans, we all want a country where we can speak our mind and live our lives within societal norms… without restriction. The United States has done well for over 250 years; but, tempers are flaring. People are polarizing…right/left, red/blue. The more polarized we become, the more violent the rhetoric, the wider the chasm between us gets. It is time to stop, to listen. We all want to be able to speak from the heart, the mind. We must honor our commitments and act with prudence

To the editor: I take this opportunity to share with you a message from the Catholic Relief Services and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (edited for brevity). On Aug. 29, the administration proposed rescinding an additional $4.9 billion in international assistance, including $3.2 billion in development assistance which support critical programs for food, clean water for families and to help victims of human trafficking.
