Schmiesing has a strong background in human services, civil support and juveniles. She is looking forward to helping more Brown County area women and children in need and seeing them succeed. The Willkommen Committee of the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce recently visited New Ulm Area Catholic Schools to meet new president Sister Julie Brandt and elementary school principal Karen Schulte. Brandt was born in Owatonna and has family from the Mankato area. She began as an elementary school teacher, then a principal. Schulte is from Bird Island, where her husband is a farmer. She taught for several years in elementary schools and for the past six years has been an education consultant. Citizens Bank Minnesota announced that Laura Franta has been promoted to client services director. Franta joined the bank in 2016 as a full-time teller. In 2019, she became a senor client services representative and most recently became a loan servicing specialist in 2021. In 2019 Laura graduated from the Citizens Leadership Academy, a two-year internal program focused on personal and professional growth. She has a bachelor’s degree from Minnesota State University Mankato. She resides in New Ulm with her husband and two children.
