NEW ULM – Redeemer Lutheran Church will host the South Central, MN chapter of The Compassionate Friends World Wide Candle Lighting ceremony on Sunday, Dec. 14. The Compassionate Friends designates the second Sunday in December as Worldwide Candle Lighting to unite family and friends around the globe to honor the memory of sons, daughters, brothers, sisters and grandchildren gone too soon. MnDOT seeks public input on snowplow names

ST. PAUL – The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is inviting the public to submit creative snowplow names for the agency’s sixth annual Name a Snowplow contest. Past winners have included Plowy McPlowFace, We’re Off To See The Blizzard and Don’tcha Snow. MnDOT encourages people to submit snowplow names ideas through the agency’s website. Submissions will be accepted through noon on Friday, Dec. 19. Compassionate Friends World Wide to hold candle lighting

NEW ULM — State Street Theater invites the community to experience “Christmas by Candlelight” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14. This performance will be illuminated by hundreds of glowing battery-operated candles, creating a festive atmosphere for the holiday celebrations. Audiences will be treated to a selection of Christmas classics performed by a lineup of local artists, including Crista and Jerimy Bohlmann, Guadalupe Hillesheim, and David Koester. NEW ULM — The New Ulm Film Society’s Steven Spielberg film series continues to be out of this world with a screening of “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial.” The screening begins 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9 at the New Ulm Public Library.
