St. James 6, New Ulm 1

ST. JAMES -- New Ulm's Ethan O'Connor and Dan Rosenhamer (No. 2 doubles) picked up the only win for New Ulm as St. James won the Big South Conference boys' tennis match on Monday.

Colton Collum lost 6-0, 7-5 at No. 1 singles and Isaac Blumhoefer lost 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Max Gieseke lost 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and Cody Gilman lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.

In doubles action, Aaron Eickanger and Jack Brownfield lost 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles and Joey Gag and Josh Rakoczy lost 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 doubles.

New Ulm (3-5) hosts Waseca on Tuesday.

RENVILLE -- Miah Busse shot a 56 to lead the Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop girls' golf team to a Tomahawk Conference victory on Monday.

Morgan Engholm led Cedar Mountain with a 57.

On the boys' side, Cedar Mountain's Chase Schiller shot a 43 and teammate Aiden Nelsen shot a 45. Logan Martin finished with a 48 to lead GFW and Justin Bernardy shot a 55 to lead Wabasso.

MARSHALL -- New Ulm defeated Marshall on Monday in a Big South Conference girls' golf meet.

Jana Julia Boquet of New Ulm was the medalist carding a 42. Abbey Frauenholtz and Izzie Wolkow both shot a 46.

Mankato Loyola 8

MANKATO -- Minnesota Valley Lutheran edged Mankato Loyola on Monday in a nonconference baseball contest.

Matthew Rieger was the winning pitcher. He pitched three innings gave up five hits on four runs and he walked two batters.

Rieger was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Theodore Giefer went 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs and Mason Cox went 1 for 4 with two RBIs.

MVL will travel to play Wabasso on Thursday in a doubleheader.

Luverne 11, Springfield 1

LUVERNE -- Luverne defeated Springfield in nonconference baseball on Monday.

For Springfield (8-1), Decker Scheffler had an RBI and Mason Rummel was 1 for 2. Mitchell Buerkle had a hit and a run scored.

Edgerton 8, Cathedral 3

EDGERTON -- Edgerton topped New Ulm Cathedral 8-3 on Monday in nonconference softball action.

Josie Pautzke took the loss in six innings with six strikeouts and one walk allowed.

She also went 2 for 4 at the plate with an RBI, while Emily Schommer went 3 for 4 with an RBI and Sarah Mohr went 2 for 4. Abby Beranek also added a hit and scored a run for the Greyhounds.

Cathedral (4-2) travels to take on Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart for a Tomahawk Conference game on Tuesday.

Madelia 5, ML/GHEC/T

TRUMAN -- The Madelia softball team grabbed its first win of the season over Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman on Monday in the Coaches vs. Cancer game by a score of 5-3.

Leading Madelia was Maiah Hennager, who went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Blair VanZee also went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Also for Madelia, Dora Facundo, Emily Stevensen and Kylie Smith each added a hit and scored a run, with Stevensen driving in a run.

Corban Tatro got the win for Madelia in seven innings of work, striking out six and allowing three earned runs on four hits and two walks.

Madelia (1-10, 0-4) hosts Martin County West on Thursday.
