MLC baseball drops 2 games at Bethany

MANKATO — The Martin Luther College baseball team lost both games of its Upper Midwest Athletic Conference doubleheader at Bethany Lutheran College by the scores of 10-3 and 23-5 on Wednesday.

BLC 10, MLC 3

The Vikings jumped to a big early lead on the way to a 10-3 win in game one.

BLC scored a pair of runs in the second inning to take the early lead, and then put the game away with five runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth to push its advantage to 9-0.

Adam Kock (1-5) started the game and took the loss for the Knights, allowing nine runs (four earned) on 13 hits.

Joey Behm led MLC with two hits and joined Matt Baehman and Caleb Christopher with one run batted in.

BLC 23, MLC 5 (7 innings)

The Vikings blew the second game open with 14 runs in the fifth inning on the way to a 23-5 win to complete the sweep.

The Knights started strong with three runs in the top of the first inning as Baehman, Jared Lindemann and Behm each drove in one run in the frame.

BLC took control from there, scoring nine runs off MLC starting pitcher Andrew Deisinger (0-4) through the first four innings, and then sending 17 batters to the plate against four different MLC pitchers in a 14-run fifth inning that put the game to bed.

Deisinger pitched 4+ innings and allowed 11 runs (10 earned) on 11 hits. Baehman, Lindemann and Behm each finished with a pair of hits, with Lindemann and Baheman each driving in two runs.

MLC fell to 5-22 on the season and 3-7 in UMAC play following the two defeats. BLC improved to 16-13 overall and 10-2 in league play with the sweep.
