MVL 69, ILHS 17
NEW ULM -- Minnesota Valley Lutheran picked up a dominant 69-17 victory over Illinois Lutheran High School in the third-place game of the MLC Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday at MVL.
The Chargers got points from 10 different players in the game and were led by Lexi Fischer with 15 points and Maddie Pearson with 12 points. Pearson also collected six steals for MVL.
Abbie Riederer added 9 points for the Chargers, while Abby Nelson and Lauren Paulsen each chipped in 8 points. Paulsen also led MVL on the boards with 11 rebounds and also added six steals, while Abby Nelson had 10 rebounds and Emma Nelson had six rebounds.
Sarah Kramer added 7 points and eight rebounds for MVL.
MVL (3-2) hosts Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Tuesday.
New Ulm 67, Marshall 53
ST. JAMES -- The New Ulm girls' basketball team defeated Marshall 67-53 on Saturday at the Big South Showcase in St. James.
The Eagles were led by seniors Joey Batt with 37 points, Iyanna Wieland with 14 and Ellie Bute with 8. Wieland led the team with eight rebounds, while junior Olivia Wick had six blocks and five rebounds.
The Eagles (4-1) next have a Big South Conference matchup Tuesday in St. Peter.
Wabasso 65, BLHS 31
WABASSO -- Wabasso moved to 2-1 overall on the year and 2-0 in the conference after a 65-31 victory over Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Saturday in Tomahawk Conference girls' basketball action.
No stats were submitted by either team.
Boys' basketball
Worthington 81,
New Ulm 60
MARSHALL -- Worthington topped New Ulm 81-60 at the Big South Showcase in Marshall on Saturday.
The Eagles were led by Reece Melby with 23 points, while Caden Hames added 19 points.
New Ulm (0-3) hosts St. Peter at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
BLHS 56, Wabasso 46
WABASSO -- Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart held off Wabasso 56-46 on Saturday in a Tomahawk Conference boys' basketball game.
The Rabbits (1-4, 0-2) were led by Mason Dallenbach with 18 points and four rebounds, while Brock Rohlik added 9 points, nine rebounds and three steals. Isaac Kronback chipped in 7 points for the Rabbits also.
BLHS was led by Judson Watkins with 14 points and Nathan Schultz with 11 points.
Wabasso hosts Sleepy Eye St. Mary's at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in conference action.
BOLD 86, Nicollet 55
MARSHALL -- BOLD topped Nicollet 86-55 in a nonconference boys' basketball game on Saturday at Southwest Minnesota State University.
The Raiders were led by Riley Hulke with 17 points and seven assists, while Josh Chadderdon added 10 points.
Anthony Macias added 9 points for Nicollet.
The Raiders (2-2) host Immanuel Lutheran on Tuesday.
Girls' hockey
New Ulm 4, Faribault 2
FARIBAULT -- The New Ulm girls' hockey team took down Faribault 4-2 on Saturday in nonconference hockey action.
Madeline Gag led the Eagles with a pair of goals, while Ashtyn Wiltscheck and Elle Cooper added a goal each. McKenna Strong had a pair of assists for New Ulm, while Cooper and Wiltscheck added an assist each.
Cassie Reed had 11 saves in the net for New Ulm.
The Eagles (7-4) are next at Fairmont on Tuesday.
Prep gymnastics
New Ulm takes 2nd at Mankato East Invite
MANKATO -- The New Ulm gymnastics team took second out of six teams at the Mankato East Invite on Saturday with a score of 131.2, while Mankato West finished first with a score of 131.75.
Kayla Goblirsch finished first in the vault (9.275), second on bars (8.5), third on the beam (8.45) and first all-around with a score of 34.725. Michelle Rosenhamer tied for fourth with Autumn Gatzlaff on the floor (8.8).
The New Ulm JV team finished first at the invite with a score of 119.2.
