Girls' Basketball
First Team
Madi Heiderscheidt, Sleepy Eye, sr., G
Heiderscheidt was a big factor in her team returning to state this season with 21.8 ppg, 4.1 apg, 3.9 rpb and 4 spg. She passed the Sleepy Eye single-season scoring record for girls' basketball and also broke the Sleepy Eye career points and assists record this season. Heiderscheidt stands out as one of the more dominating players in the area and finished her career with 1,696 points and 407 assists.
Joey Batt, New Ulm, jr., G
Batt played a big role in her team's success this past season as one of New Ulm's leaders. She averaged 25.7 ppg, 3.6 apg, 5.4 spg, 3.7 rpg and had 701 points this season.
She hit the 1,000-point mark vs Jackson County Central on Dec. 2, 2017 and has 1,623 total career points. According to Minnesota Girls' Basketball Hub, Batt finished sixth in the state for total points, ninth in the state for points per game, ninth in the state for 3-pointers made with 63 and fourth in the state with 136 steals.
Batt was also first team All-Journal last season and she was named to the all-conference team this year.
Taylor Rose, CM/C, sr., F
Rose averaged 19 ppg and shot 45 percent this season for the Cougars. She finished third on the CM/C list in points with 1,144 points. She also finishes sixth in career rebounds for CM/C. A 45 percent shooter for her career, Rose was a scoring threat anywhere on the floor.
Jenna Frank, Wabasso, jr., F
Frank was the Rabbits' leading scorer and played the top of their press defensively. She averaged over 18 ppg and shot over 40 percent from the 3-point line. She also averaged 2.7 rpg.
As a three-year varsity starter, Frank is at 777 career points and is a career 41 percent shooter from 3-point range.
Madison Guetter,
Wabasso, jr., C
Guetter has been a three-year starter for Wabasso and is approaching her 1,000-point scoring mark with over 700 career rebounds. Guetter was second on her team in scoring, first in rebounding and was second in steals. She shot 51 percent from the floor and averaged 16 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 2.8 apg and 2.5 bpg. She has 986 career points.
Second Team
Madison Mathiowetz,
St. Mary's, 8th grade, F
The eighth-grader averaged 14.9 ppg, 6.8 rpg, had 56 steals and 38 assists in her first year as a starter for the Knights. She was a Tomahawk All-Conference honorable mention this year and has 403 career points and 183 rebounds.
Grace Dehen, Nicollet, jr., G
Dehen stepped up this year for the Raiders as a leading scorer. She scored 16 ppg, had 2 rpg, 3 apg and 2 spg this past year for the Raiders. (36 percent 3-PT, 70 percent FT) She was selected for the Valley All-Conference Team this year as well.
Sydney Hauger,
Springfield, so., G
Hauger stepped up for Springfield this season, coming off of last year's 12 ppg and 4.2 rpg. This season, she averaged 20.1 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 4 spg, and shot 40 percent from the floor. She also shot 72 percent at the foul line this year, up from last season's 59 percent.
She averaged around 34 minutes per game and her coach Dillon Schultz said that there is no limit to how far he can push her.
Brianna Polesky,
Sleepy Eye, sr., G
Polesky helped her squad to state this year with 10.1 ppg and 4.6 rpg. She added 75 blocks and 75 assists for the Indians in her senior year. Her coach Ryan Hulke said Polesky added the ability to get to the rim this year to go with her great shooting. He said that Polesky could guard any position on the floor and that her love for playing defense is something he hasn't seen before.
Emily Heimkes, GFW, sr., G
Heimkes led GFW this year with 15.1 ppg, 5.1 rpb and 3.8 apg. She shot 35 percent from beyond the arc and 39 percent from the floor. She was also a 70 percent free-throw shooter. GFW coach Richard Busse described Heimkes as a new leader for the team this year, taking over the point guard position.
Third Team
Jody Hansen, St. Mary's. sr., G
Hansen wrapped up an impressive career at St. Mary's with 7.1 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 4.8 apg and 4.9 spg. She finisher her career with 620 points, 428 rebounds, 389 steals (school record) and 380 assists (second in school history). She made the Tomahawk All-Conference team this year as well.
Abby Jemmings, CM/C, sr., G
Jemmings averaged 12.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.5 apg and 3.3 spg for the Cougars in her senior year. Jemmings finished her career third in assists, fifth in scoring and second in steals on the all-time CM/C lists.
Sarah Ibarra, Sleepy Eye, sr., G
Ibarra passed 1,000 points in her career this season and averaged 9.9 ppg and 6.9 rpg in a return trip to state for the Indians. Ibarra missed eight games this year with an ankle injury, but when she was healthy towards the end of the year, she made up for her lost time in big ways. Her coach Ryan Hulke called her a complete basketball player whose versatility will be missed next year.
Brooke Skrien, Nicollet, sr., G
Skrien averaged 14 points per game for the Raiders this season, while adding 8 rebounds per game, 2 assists per game and 2 steals per game. (34 percent 3-PT, 70 percent FT) She was Valley All-Conference last year and this year, was on the All-Journal team last year, and is a career 1,000-point scorer.
Cassie Heinrichs, St. Mary's, jr., G
Heinrichs averaged 12.4 ppg, 4.4 rpg, had 52 assists and 44 steals this season for the Knights. She currently had 657 career points, 227 rebounds, 98 assists and 82 steals.
