Area Roundup: Rose nets 1,000th point; New Ulm boys fall in LeSueur

Girls' basketball

CM/C 77, BLHS 49

MORGAN -- Taylor Rose scored her 1,000th point on Friday as Cedar Mountain/Comfrey crushed Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart in a Tomahawk Conference girls' basketball game.

Rose finished with 22 points, four rebounds and four assists. Abby Jemmings added 23 points with six assists and Erica Bock had 17 points, four rebounds and four assists.

CM/C (14-6, 8-6) will play at New Ulm Cathedral (5-17, 2-12) on Tuesday.

Wabasso 75,

Springfield 52

SPRINGFIELD -- Wabasso crushed Springfield on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference girls' basketball contest.

Madison Guetter led Wabasso with 23 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks. Jenna Frank added 19 points and Allison Fenger had 15 points with 11 rebounds.

Sydney Hauger scored 23 points for Springfield.

Wabasso (17-3, 11-3) will host Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday. Springfield (9-3, 5-10) will host Windom Area on Monday.

Boys' hockey

New Ulm 1

LESUEUR-- Minnesota River defeated New Ulm on Friday in a Big South Conference boys' hockey game.

Josh Seidl scored the Eagles' lone goal with an assist by Ryan Esser.

Jack Raymond had 22 saves as goaltender.

New Ulm (11-10-1) will host Worthington on Monday.

Boys' basketball

Springfield 73,

Wabasso 39

WABASSO -- Springfield handed Wabasso a 73-39 loss on Friday night in Tomahawk Conference boys' basketball action.

Myles Zeug led Wabasso scorers with 12 points on the night, while Brock Rohlik had 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Springfield was led by Decker Scheffler with 21 points. Mitchell Buerkle added 14 points for the Tigers.

Springfield (20-1, 14-0) hosts Red Rock Central on Tuesday, while Wabasso (2-18, 2-11) is at Canby Monday.

SJA 59, Madelia 44

MADELIA -- St. James Area defeated Madelia on Friday in a nonconference boys' basketball game.

Logan Anderson led Madelia with 12 points and Ramiro Zamora added 10 points.

Madelia (2-18, 0-9) will face Truman/Martin Luther/Granada Huntley/East Chain at 7 p.m. on Monday at Truman in the Valley Conference Showcase.

Late Thursday

CM/C 77, BLHS 63

HECTOR -- Cedar Mountain/Comfrey toppled Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 77-63 on Thursday night in boys' basketball action behind Dylan Hillesheim's 39-point effort.

Hillesheim also added six boards and four assists for CM/C, while Lewis Pendleton and Lucas Emineth added 9 points apiece. Pendleton also added eight assists.

CM/C hosts Cathedral on Tuesday.
