Prep roundup: Sartell gymnasts defeat New Ulm, GFW, CM/C girls win

Prep gymnastics

Sartell 144.5, New Ulm 132.875

SARTELL — Sarah Longtin of New Ulm won the all-around title with a score of 34.175, but Sartell defeated New Ulm 144.5-132.875 in gymnastics Friday.

Sarah Longtin was second in the floor exercise with 9.15 and Kaylee Hutchinson was fifth with 8.55 for New Ulm.

Longtin also took fourth in vault with 9.0 and Michelle Rosenhamer took fifth with 8.95.

New Ulm’s Kelsi Miller took fifth in beam with 8.425.

New Ulm competes at 6 p.m. on Friday at St. James.

Girls’ basketball

GFW 80, LSH 54

WINTHROP — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop downed LeSueur-Henderson on Friday in a nonconference girls’ basketball game.

Emily Heimkes scored 21 points and had six assists for GFW while Katelynn Firle added 17 points and 10 rebounds.

GFW (10-4, 6-1) will play at Minnesota Valley Lutheran (7-6, 3-3) on Tuesday.

CM/C 57, NUC 39

MORGAN — ­Cedar Mountain/Comfrey defeated New Ulm Cathedral 57-39 in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game Friday.

CM/C was led by Abby Jemmings, who had 20 points and five steals. Aslo for CM/C, Taylor Rose had 14 points and Lexi Toll had 10 points, six rebounds and four blocks.

Cathedral’s leading scorers were Lauryn Franta, who scored 13 points and Becca Schwarz, who scored 10 points.

CM/C (8-3, 4-3) plays at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at Madelia. Cathedral hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Wabasso 74, BLHS 37

HECTOR — Wabasso crushed Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

Jenna Frank led Wabasso with 24 points and Madison Guetter added 20 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots.

Wabasso (9-3, 6-2) will play at Dawson-Boyd on Tuesday. BLHS (2-11, 0-7) will play at New Ulm Cathedral (1-11, 0-6) on Tuesday.

Boys’ basketball

MVL 74, St. Mary’s 51

SLEEPY EYE — Minnesota Valley Lutheran defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 74-51 in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game Friday.

MVL was led by Jake Kettner, who scored 25 points.

St. Mary’s leading scorer was Carter Currans, who scored 16 points.

St. Mary’s (0-11) hosts Cedar Mountain/Comfrey at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

MVL plays at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop.

New Ulm 77 (2 OT)

BLUE EARTH — Blue Earth Area edged New Ulm in double overtime on Friday in a Big South boys’ basketball game.

Reece Melby led New Ulm with 21 points and Braden Zimmerman had 20 points.

New Ulm (7-8, 3-4) will host Worthington on Tuesday.
