MANKATO — St. Croix Lutheran defeated Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Thursday in the Kwik Trip Holiday Tournament at Bethany Lutheran College in boys’ basketball.

Jake Kettner led the Chargers with 28 points, while Mason Cox added 15 points.

MVL (6-2) will face the loser of the Maple River-Fairmont game at 6:30 p.m. on Friday in Game 11.

New Ulm Cathedral 81, JWP 76

NICOLLET — The New Ulm Cathedral boys’ basketball team edged Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton on Thursday in the Nicollet Holiday Tournament.

Jon Zinniel led the Greyhounds with 20 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks. Jacob Manderfeld added 18 points with five rebounds, Nathan Hauser had 16 points with nine rebounds and James Gillis scored 10 points.

Alex Hillesheim had 10 points with six rebounds.

New Ulm Cathedral (6-4) will play at Mankato Loyola on Tuesday.

Mound-Westonka 79, New Ulm 59

NORWOOD YOUNG AMERICA — Mound Westonka defeated New Ulm on Thursday in the first round of the Norwood Invitational Holiday Tournament.

Connor Foley led the Eagles with 20 points, Matt Janke had 13 points and Reece Melby added 12 points.

New Ulm (9-4) will face Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (1-5) on Friday in the second round of the Norwood Tournament.

CM/C 59, TCU 57

MOUNTAIN LAKE — Cedar Mountain/Comfrey edged Tri City United on Thursday in the Mountain Lake Area Holiday Tournament.

Dylan Hillesheim led CM/C with 21 points while Lewis Pendleton and Eli Samuelson scored 10 points apiece.

CM/C (4-3) will play Mountain Lake Area at 4:30 p.m. on Friday in the second round of the tournament.

Prep girls’ basketball

Sleepy Eye 53, LP/HT 44

GOODHUE — The Sleepy Eye girls’ basketball team downed Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity on Thursday in the Goodhue Invitational Holliday Tournament.

Madi Heiderscheidt led Sleepy Eye with 24 points, while Madi Krueger chipped in 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists and six steals. Mya Ibberson had 3 points, 11 rebounds and eight blocks.

Sleepy Eye (8-2) will play Goodhue at 4:45 p.m. on Friday in the second round of the Goodhue Tournament.

CM/C 70, WWG 46

MOUNTAIN LAKE — Cedar Mountain/Comfrey defeated Westbrook-Walnut Grove 70-46 on Thursday in the Mountain Lake Area Invitational Holiday Tournament.

Taylor Rose scored 33 points and added eight rebounds and three steals. Erica Bock added 12 points, four rebounds and three steals for CM/C.

CM/C (4-3, 1-3) will face Mountain Lake Area at 6 p.m. on Friday in the second round of the Mountain Lake Tournament.

New Ulm 76, Belle Plaine 46

NORWOOD YOUNG AMERICA — New Ulm defeated Belle Plaine on Friday in the first round of the Norwood Young American Tournament.

Joey Batt led the Eagles with 26 points, Ellie Bute added 12 points and Lizzy Shaul had 11 points.

New Ulm (7-2) will place at 6 p.m. on Friday in the second round of the tournament.

Prep girls’ hockey

New Ulm 5, West Fargo 0

SARTELL — New Ulm blanked West Fargo 5-0 on Thursday in the Sartell Holiday Tournament in girls’ hockey.

Dani Weiss led New Ulm with two goals and two assists. Jackie Cowing, Ali Beltz and Madeline Gag each added one goal apiece. Gag and Beltz also each had an assist. Ashtyn Wiltscheck added two assists.

The Eagles had 34 shots on goal while West Fargo had 21.
