New and Improved Poker Walk Starts Friday, May 3

NEW ULM — The New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce and Wealth Management Solutions, with promotional support from the Heart of New Ulm, are once again teaming up to promote financial and physical wellness in sponsoring a “Poker Walk” this spring. Everyone in New Ulm is invited to join in. This year, the Poker Walk features several changes from prior years.

“First, we’re offering the walk on both Fridays and Saturdays in May this year, so that even more people have the opportunity to participate,” said Mila Quiring, Financial Advisor with Wealth Management Solutions. “Another change is that the first 50 people to register at the New Ulm Chamber office will receive a free t-shirt. We encourage people to wear their t-shirts while they walk, then take selfies at the various businesses and post them to their Facebook page with a tag #pokerwalknu. We want to make the weekly walks fun, social and active for everyone.”

Here’s how it works:

Every Friday or Saturday during the month of May, check out the Chamber’s, or Heart of New Ulm’s, Facebook page for the week’s designated one-mile route, which will include stops at five participating businesses. You can also pick up a printed copy at the New Ulm Chamber office at 1 N. Minnesota St.

Participants need to stop at each business between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and pick up a playing card, assemble their poker hand, and then stop at the Chamber office at 1 N. Minnesota St. to drop off and register their hand by 3 p.m. each Friday or Saturday through May 31.

Each week, a drawing will be held among those participants who post their picture on Facebook doing the Poker Walk and tag it using #pokerwalknu and 10 random winners will be chosen each week to receive $5 in Chamber Bucks.

At the end of each week, the winning poker hand will be entered into a grand prize drawing for the participant’s choice of either a six-month membership to a New Ulm fitness club of their choice, or a $250 gift certificate valid toward personal training services.
