NEW ULM -- The Champagne Brunch and Spring Fashion Show was a sell-out Saturday morning.

All 126 tickets were sold by Wednesday, March 29, for the brunch and fashion show at The Grand Center for Arts and Culture. Guests were able to examine outfits from four different stores while sipping mimosas or champagne.

"We (did) this just to create awareness for what great stores we have in New Ulm and promote shopping in New Ulm," said Heather Hammer who is on the committee for the fashion show. "It is a great spring and summer kickoff for the clothing lines."

A to Zinnia Floral and Gifts, Gallery 512 Boutique, Semblance and Inspired each had four models to display a total of 64 outfits from their collections.

"You will see a ton of floral -- prints, patterns, pants, tops -- all of the above," said Hammer, who owns A to Zinnia. "There is a huge floral influence, which I love."

There were also a lot of layered outfits, with jackets, bootie-style shoes and distressed jeans, Hammer said.

In years past the fashion show and the brunch had been separate events, but this year the committee wanted to shake things up.

The event filled the first two floors of The Grand. Hammer suspects they could have added the third floor and sold 160 tickets or more.

With the success of the event the New Ulm Business and Retail Association (one of the sponsors) will likely continue the tradition next year, Hammer said.

"We really want to keep this one downtown, so that it is close to the stores and close to shopping, so that was our goal: keeping it down here," Hammer said. "If we can find a venue down here that is bigger we might switch. We might keep it here and just add that third floor."

This fall the association will be hosting the Modenschau Thursday, Sept. 21 at Turner Hall. It will be raising money for the Southern Minnesota Crisis Nursery.
