NEW ULM -- New Ulm Area Catholic Schools (NUACS) invites the community to two events to celebrate Catholic Schools Week.
Today from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at St. Anthony Elementary is Family Fun Night. Then Saturday, Feb. 4, starting at 3:30 p.m. at NUACS is Snowfest.
Family Fun Night is a way to celebrate with families and have some fun on a Wednesday night.
"It is just kind of a fun winter event to have something to do," Assistant Development Director Tamara Klawitter said.
There will be carnival games that can be played with tickets that cost $0.50 a piece. There also will be Clare Fischer, a seventh-grade Cathedral student who operates a balloon artistry business.
A raffle offers the chance for families to win prize sets of coloring books, toys and more. Pizza and tacos in a bag will be served. The night will be DJ'd by The Other DJ Company.
While Family Fun Night is aimed at the whole family, Snowfest is primarily for adults. Bingo, a bake sale, silent, auction, six raffles, games and sheepshead will start at 3:30 p.m.
There is a dinner offered in the Holy Trinity cafeteria 5-8 p.m. The menu includes pulled pork sandwiches, chicken wild rice soup and American pasta salad. There will be German potato salad and sauerkraut made by the Turner Ladies as well.
Also starting at 5 p.m. is a bean bag tournament, wine pull, and The Other DJ Company will be returning to play for the event.
The wine pull offers a chance to win an expensive bottle of wine. About 80 bottles of varying value will be in unmarked bags and for $20 players can try their luck or for $30 they can grab two bottles. Some extra prizes such as gift cards may be included in the bag.
A live auction will be starting at 8:30 p.m. with prizes that include a Yamaha 2000 generator, a vacation package to Branson, Missouri and a diamond necklace. This year the auction booklets that contain a bidder's number are free.
The silent auction contains over 100 items. Anyone who cannot make it to Snowfest can still participate in the silent auction by going to bidp.co and selecting Snowfest as the event. Or visit nuacs.com and find the link under the news tab.
Snowfest raises money for the day-to-day operations of the school system.
"I would say it is the largest fundraiser of the year for NUACS," Development Director Sara Rieland said.
Fundraising is important for keeping tuition costs at NUACS affordable and paying for the cost of education.
"Tuition does not cover the total cost of educating the child," Rieland said. "Fundraising does more than half and this is a big chunk of that."
