Vermont allows out-of-staters to use assisted suicide law (AP) — Vermont on Tuesday became the first state in the country to change its medically assisted suicide law to allow terminally ill people from out of state to take advantage of it to end their lives. Republican Gov. Phil Scott signed the bill that removes the residency requirement for the decades-old law. Last year in a court settlement, Oregon agreed to stop enforcing the residency requirement of its law allowing terminally ill people to receive lethal medication. The balloon that flew over Hawaii? State senator makes shirtless vote during Zoom meeting MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A Minnesota state senator became a reluctant star on social media after he voted shirtless while lying in bed during what should have been a routine legislative commission meeting. In a video streamed on YouTube, Republican Sen. Bear gives principal a roaring wake-up call

A black bear gave a West Virginia principal quite the roaring wake-up call when it emerged from a dumpster outside an elementary school. Enabling adult addicts must stop

Dear Annie: As a 31-year-old female who is a sober alcoholic, I’d like to offer my advice to parents of alcoholics who put their foot down by telling their grown “children” to either stop drinking and using or leave the house. Good for you! I don’t actively work in a traditional recovery program, but I go to therapy and take medications to make sure I stay sober. When parents refuse to take a hard line with an addict son or daughter, they are enabling alcoholism and drug addiction. Picture a young adult living in his childhood bedroom, taking meth at night until 5 a.m. Meth ...

Use plastic gloves when kneading

Dear Heloise: I read the letter from Leigh S. of Boise, Idaho, in which she relates her problem of getting sticky fingers when kneading dough. I have a better solution than using plastic bags. Use plastic gloves! They cover your hands and wrists. You can use either the surgical type (like medical staff use) or nonsurgical ones. The surgical type are tight-fitting and knead well, but they are harder to remove when you’re done. The nonsurgical type are loose-fitting (so they’re a little bit inferior for kneading), but they’re super easy to remove. I also use these for making ...
