Q: How was it to film "Love in Zion National: A National Park Romance"on location?
A: All of these parks are magnificent, and they all are so different in their own ways. I haven't done all of them yet, but I'm on a good roll here! (Busby made "Marry Me in Yosemite"on location for Hallmark Channel last year.)
Zion National was beautiful, but it was pretty chilly still. They'd been getting a little bit of snow, so we were working with Mother Nature, if you will. But the sky was clear, and we were just lucky to be shooting outdoors. Every day out there is a good day.
Q: With "Meet Me in Yosemite,"you had to start your work days early, before the tourist crowd began filling the park. Was it the same at Zion National?
A: It wasn't the same as far as that goes. There weren't any 4 a.m. calls -- which I was super-grateful for -- plus we were shooting earlier in the year than we shot "Meet Me in Yosemite,"so the sun came up at a different time as well.
(Zion National) is very vast, and most of the time, we had no cell-phone reception … which kind of told you where you were at. You knew you were kind of in the middle of nowhere, which I frankly loved. It's nice just to be in the moment, and it really makes a difference. And it makes for a more tightly knit crew, because everyone is just there together. Most of the crew on "Yosemite"was part of this one, too, which was really cool.
Q: "Love in Zion National"also has a cultural aspect, since your curator character has to determine whether ancient vases belong to the Pueblo Nation. Do you enjoy playing out such elements?
A: It's important, because it's part of the history of Zion. I felt a little bit like Indiana Jones at times, since we were finding all these clues about the vases, then something would happen that derailed us. It was pretty fun to do a mini-mystery in that regard. Everyone learns along with Lauren, the character I play, she's the vessel for that information.
