Commissioners to consider fuel tank purchase
At Hanska and/or Springfield shops
NEW ULM — Brown County commissioners will consider purchasing a 1,000-gallon fuel tank for highway department shops in Springfield and/or Hanska Tuesday, March 7.
Fuel setup quotes received for each shop are $7,536 from Zahl Equipment and $7,549 from Farmward Cooperative.
The highway department has a motorgrader and tandem truck at both shops. The nearest fueling station to the Springfield shop is Farmward Cooperative near Springfield.
Farmward’s pumps froze up this winter. They temporarily supplied the highway department with a tank at the shop to fuel equipment until the pumps could be repaired.
With a tank at the Springfield shop, 20 minutes for the tandem truck and 50 minutes for the motorgrader could be saved each day they need fuel.
Since the fueling station in Hanska is close to the Hanska county highway shop, lost time is not an issue. Fuel pump problems have been an issue. Many times, the Hanska pump does not work. The Hanska fueling station allowed the highway department to fuel where the cooperative trucks fuel, but that doesn’t have a good paper trail.
Commissioners will also consider:
• Awarding highway department maintenance striping quotes to the appropriate bidder. Three quote requests were sent out. One quote was received from Sir Lines-A-Lot LLC, at $118,000 for 120 miles of roadway striping, $21.80/gal for yellow and $22.40/gal for white. Estimated quantities are 1,200 gallons of yellow paint and 4,100 gallons of white paint. The 2023 budget has $100,000 for normal maintenance.
• A Families First Collaborative Coordinator agreement with Brown County Public Health at $28.85 per hour, up to 12 hours a week. Programming collaborates, plans, develops and implements projects to carry out the mission to address early childhood intervention, mental health needs and families at risk intervention and prevention.
• Review bids received for two land parcels north of the Brown County Landfill and approve farm lease agreements for parcels.
Brown County has 30 acres of tillable land north of the landfill and 32 acres of grassland with a tree planting with rental agreements that expired Nov. 15 or upon 2022 crop harvest.
The Highest bid received for parcel 1, 30 acres of tillable ground was submitted by Brad Sellner for $226.17/acre, $6,785 annual.
One bid was received for parcel 2, 35 acres of hay ground from Mark Manderfeld for $52.50/acre, $1,837.50 annual.
• Drainage authority teleconference/Zoom meetings for Judicial Ditch #9 B&BE and Judicial Ditch #10 B&BE begin at 8:30 a.m. March 7 in the courthouse commissioner’s room. The regular board meeting begins at 9 a.m. March 7.
