New Ulm has 4 recognized as All-BSC gymnasts

NEW ULM — Four New Ulm Eagles gymnasts received recognition by the Big South Conference on Monday as All-Conference gymnasts. Seniors Alaina Blomberg, Sophia Berger, Avarey Sellner were all named All-Conference, Black Division gymnasts for the Eagles, along with eighth-grader Aubrey Romsdahl.

Steffensmeier scores 1,000th point for Knights

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Marys’ Adam Steffensmeier hit 1,000 career points on Saturday in a 90-72 loss to St. James Area in a nonconference boys basketball game. Steffensmeier had 13 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Brecken Hulke had 16 points and seven rebounds and Michael Balko had 16 points and four rebounds. Sawyer Olson had 34 points to lead St. James (16-9), while Quinton Kern had 20. The Knights (14-12) open Section 2A playoffs Friday against an opponent to be determined.

Section 3A wrestling individuals from Springfield SPRINGFIELD — Wabasso’s Mason Kampsen earned a state tournament berth on Saturday with a 3-1 day Saturday at the Section 3A Individual Wrestling Tournament at Springfield High School. Kampsen (215) went 3-1 on the day and pinned Vincent Bray of Fulda/Murray County Central in 2:42 in a true second match to earn his state berth. Wabasso girls fall in playoffs to top-seeded CMC

MONTEVIDEO — Eighth-seeded Wabasso fell to No. 1-seeded Central Minnesota Christian 74-32 on Saturday in a Section 3A Girls Basketball Tournament game. Wabasso was led by Ava Samyn’s 11 points, five rebounds and two blocks, while Kenley Guetter had 10 points, 13 rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Kayleigha Johnson also had 6 points for the Rabbits. Wabasso finishes its season 9-19 overall, an eight-win improvement from last season’s 1-26 mark.
