ST. PAUL – Martin Luther college freshman Logan Korthals and coach Mark Weinkauf headlined the 2026 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference men’s cross country all-conference teams as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon.
Korthals, the 2026 individual UMAC champion, was unsurprisingly named Rookie of the Year to go along with his individual title. Korthals won the race with a time of 25:47.9, which is the third-fastest time at the championships since at least 2005. It is also the second-fastest time in MLC history.
Weinkauf was named coach of the year for the first time in his seven years at the helm of the program after guiding the Knights to their first title since 2008. He has now coached 17 athletes to a total of 26 all-conference honors.
MLC’s entire counting lineup finished in all-conference places. In addition to Korthals, senior Silas Ebeling and junior Eliott Heiderich were named to the first team. Ebeling finished fifth and Heiderich was sixth overall. Freshmen Thomas Moldenhauer and Andrew Holz were both named to the second team. Moldenhauer finished in ninth, one spot away from first-team recognition, while Holz finished 13th. All five counting runners ran personal-best times.
Senior Micah Vanderhoof was MLC’s sportsmanship honoree.
For the women’s team, MLC was well represented, as Freshman Claire Fischer headlined the honors as she was named Rookie of the Year in the conference thanks to her seventh-place overall finish with a personal-best time of 24:02.2.
Fischer’s place also earned her a spot alongside teammates Grace Hahm and Jemimah Habben on the all-conference first team. Hahm finished third and Habben was fifth overall. The Knights and Crown tied for the most first-team selections with three.
The Knights took third as a team, clinching their fifth-straight top-three finish. With this year’s honorees, coach Breanna Olson has now coached 11 athletes that have earned 23 all-conference honors in her seven seasons.
Senior Liberty VanDenHeuvel was MLC’s sportsmanship honoree.
