NEW ULM -- Matt Zupke is the new Activities Director at New Ulm High School.
Zupke, who took over his new duties on Thursday, replaces Konnor Jusczak.
Zupke comes to New Ulm High School from Atwater-Grove City High School where he held a similar position.
"I am originally from the BOLD school district -- I graduated from high school there -- and I went to college at Moorhead State and played football there," Zupke said.
After graduation, Zupke went back to the BOLD school district where he taught Social Studies and was also the head wrestling coach, assistant football coach and assistant track coach.
"I also helped run the summer recreation program there," he said.
Three years ago Zupke made the move to the ACGC school district, where he became the Activities Director.
"That was my first year of being an AD so I am now going on my fourth year of being an Activities Director," Zupke said. "I have been there for the last three years and this position opened up, so I was happy to jump on it."
Zupke said going from being an AD in ACGC to being AD in New Ulm was because he was looking for more opportunities.
"That was really the big piece I think," he said. "I do not want to say that ACGC was kind of my training ground, but I definitely learned a lot on how to do this role. This was the first year where I have really felt comfortable and when I saw the opening for New Ulm, I was familiar with the area, I competed down here many times.
"I have heard great things about the school district and there has been a lot of success in this school district and that is something that I want to be a part of and want to continue to grow and take ownership over this activities program."
Zupke said he wants activities to be a good experience for the student experience.
"I want them to feel that when they graduate to feel that they had a great experience," he said. "I want them to remember a positive experience."
