Area roundup: Knights, Cougars earn sweeps

PREP VOLLEYBALL

ST. MARY'S 3, SPRINGFIELD 0

SPRINGFIELD -- Sleepy Eye St. Mary's swept Springfield 26-24, 25-10, 25-19 in a Tomahawk Division volleyball match on Tuesday.

Morgan Mathiowetz had seven kills and 10 digs for the Knights, while Audra Hoffmann had nine kills and seven digs. Olivia Schieffert had six kills, and Brynne Ibberson had 21 set assists.

Kendall Krueger led the Tigers with eight kills and five digs, while Olivia Milbrath had five kills. Sophie Mude and Fayelynn Williams both had 11 set assists, while Belle Groebner had 10 digs.

St. Mary's (17-3-1, 7-0) plays at Nicollet on Monday, while Springfield (6-9, 4-3) plays at Cedar Mountain on Tuesday.

CEDAR MOUNTAIN 3, LESTER PRAIRIE 0

MORGAN -- Cedar Mountain swept Lester Prairie 25-7, 25-15, 25-12 in a Tomahawk Division volleyball match on Tuesday.

Kendra Erickson led the Cougars with 14 kills, 16 set assists and six digs, while Reagyn Kleinschmidt had 13 kills, 14 set assists and four digs. Aubrey Steffl added 12 digs, seven kills and two aces. Evy Heibel had six aces and Grace Guetter had 10 digs.

Cedar Mountain (12-4, 6-1) hosts Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther on Monday.

LCWM 3, MVL 1

LAKE CRYSTAL -- Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial topped Minnesota Valley Lutheran 25-23, 17-25, 25-22, 25-17 in a South Central Conference volleyball match on Tuesday.

Alice Hollerich had 21 kills for the Knights, while Nev Parsons had 10 kills. Katie Hanson had nine kills, Gretta Munson had 22 digs and Reese Palmer had 29 set assists.

MVL's Graysie Black surpassed 1,000 career set assists in the game, recording 46 set assists, nine digs and two blocks. Olivia Hammer paced the Chargers with 17 kills and six digs, while Jenna Bates had 12 kills and 17 digs. Taryn Gunderson had 23 digs.

LCMW (15-6, 6-2) plays at Waseca on Monday, while MVL (15-7) hosts Cathedral on Thursday.

MCW 3, NICOLLET 2

NICOLLET -- Martin County West edged out Nicollet 25-8, 14-25, 25-19, 25-22, 15-12 in a Valley Division volleyball match on Tuesday.

Madison Kettner led the Raiders with 11 kills, 12 digs and three blocks, while Megan Soost ahd seven kills. Cheyenne Klockziem had six kills and four blocks, while Zoie Rengstorf had 15 set assists and Lydia Martens had 11 set assists and four digs. Chloe Kachelmeier had 13 digs, and Jazmyn Goettlicher had six kills and three blocks.

Nicollet plays at Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther on Thursday.

BLHS 3, SLEEPY EYE 1

HECTOR -- Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart defeated Sleepy Eye 23-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-15 in a Tomahawk Division volleyball match on Tuesday.

No statistics were reported for BLHS.

For Sleepy Eye, Kenley Jensen had eight kills and four digs, while Callie Evers had nine kills and 14 digs. Karly Wendinger had four kills and four blocks, while Ava Kunkel had 23 set assists, 10 digs and three blocks. Jace Schauman added 18 digs.

BLHS (8-14, 4-3) hosts Lester Prairie next Tuesday, while Sleepy Eye (8-13, 3-5) hosts Mankato Loyola on Monday.

WWG 3, RRC 0

LAMBERTON -- Red Rock Central was swept by Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Tuesday in a Red Rock Conference volleyball match, falling 25-16, 25-20, 25-17.

RRC (5-10, 2-4) was led by Natasha Erickson's four kills and five set assists, while Kendra Schroeder had three kills and 14 digs and Amelia Ubl had 24 digs. Halle Paplow added five assists, while Zoey Keck had 16 digs, Sophie Paplow had two aces, Victoria Pankonin had two blocks and Paige Wondercheck had two blocks.

RRC is at Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on Thursday to battle the Knights.

GIRLS TENNIS

MANKATO EAST 7, NEW ULM 0

MANKATO -- Mankato East swept New Ulm 7-0 in a Section 2AA Girls Tennis Match on Tuesday to end the Eagles' season.

The Eagles had some success in the doubles, with No. 1 Brielle Evans and Regina Soto falling to Amelia Hacker and Sydney Kusick 6-1, 6-2 and No. 2 Singles Elanor Grathwohl and Annika Wyffels falling to Lexi Mock and Addy Westman 6-4, 6-1.
