By Travis Rosenau 2 min read

NEW ULM - As the wind picked up and rain began to fall in the first half of Saturday's nonconference women's soccer game, the Martin Luther College Knights held a 1-0 lead and knew they'd have their backs to the wind eventually.

Kicking with the wind in the second half, the Knights added two more goals to their total and shut out the Faith Baptist Eagles 3-0.

The Knights got on the board midway through the first half, right around the time that the wind started to pick up and rain showers appeared. Katie Schoeneck was the one to jump-start the Knights with that goal on an assist by Allison Olson in the 22nd minute of play. The shot found the upper-left corner of the net and was Schoeneck's sixth goal of the season.

After taking their 1-0 lead into halftime, Schoeneck scored her seventh goal of the season in the 59th minute on another assist from Olson to give the Knights a 2-0 lead.

MLC got its third and final goal of the day from Ella Ristow, who headed the ball in off a corner kick from Schoeneck in the 69th minute.

The Knights had two goalies get in the game, with starting keeper Maria Vik making two saves and Reese Krause recording two saves. Eagles goalie Sophia Morrell finished the game with eight saves.

MLC moved to 6-3-2 with the win, while Faith Baptist dropped to 2-6-2.
