PREP VOLLEYBALL
WABASSO 3, SLEEPY EYE 0
SLEEPY EYE -- The Wabasso Rabbits rolled to a win in straight sets on Thursday, defeating the Sleepy Eye Storm 25-15, 29-27, 25-14 in a Tomahawk Division volleyball match.
Kenley Guetter led the Rabbits with 15 kills, eight digs and four aces, while Cendyll Daub had eight kills and two solo blocks and Melany Kramer had eight kills. Britta Brand had 14 digs also for Wabasso, while Alexa Remiger had seven digs and six aces, Lanna Janeiro-Dolan had 22 set assists, Cassie Bliss had 13 set assists and Ava Samyn had a solo block and a block assist.
Sleepy Eye was led by Callie Evers, who had seven kills, while Kenley Jensen had five kills and Ava Kunkel had 13 set assists, six digs and two aces.
Wabasso plays at the Jimmy John's Tournament in Marshall next on Oct. 9. Sleepy Eye plays in the Nicollet Tournament on Saturday.
LOYOLA 3, NICOLLET 1
MANKATO -- Nicollet fell to Mankato Loyola in four sets on Thursday in a Valley Division volleyball match, falling 15-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-15.
The Raiders were led by Madison Kettner's 18 kills and 13 digs, while Jazmyn Goettlicher had eight kills. Megan Soost and Jacelyn Wilking each had seven kills, while Chloe Kachelmeier had 22 digs, Zoie Rengstorf had 18 set assists and seven digs, Lydia Martens had 17 set assists and two aces and Cheyenne Klockziem had two aces and two blocks.
Nicollet hosts a tournament on Saturday.
BLHS 3, GFW 0
GIBBON -- Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart swept Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Thursday in a Tomahawk Division volleyball match, winning 25-19, 25-14, 25-13.
Kora Schwarzrock led GFW with seven kills, while Chloe Henrichs had five kills and Kjerssa Jasinski had four kills. Kinley Bruns and Maren Kemkes each had six digs also for GFW, with Kemkes adding 12 set assists, while Natalie Ahlbrecht had six set assists, Brynn Caspers had three blocks and Lauren Schafer had two blocks.
No statistics were available for BLHS on Thursday.
GFW is at New Ulm Cathedral on Tuesday, while BLHS is at Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City on Monday.
ST. CLAIR 3, MVL 2
ST. CLAIR -- Minnesota Valley Lutheran dropped a five-setter to St. Clair on Thursday in a South Central Conference volleyball match, falling 21-25, 18-25, 25-18, 25-22, 15-7.
Jenna Bates led the Chargers with 21 kills, 14 digs and two blocks, while Olivia Hammer had 13 kills, 18 digs and three aces and Kam Davey had eight kills and six blocks. Also for MVL, Ellie Kaesermann had six kills and two blocks, Emmalie Fluegge had four kills and four blocks, Graysie Black had 52 set assists and 11 digs and Taryn Gunderson had 21 digs and two aces.
MVL fell to 15-6 with the loss and is at Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial on Tuesday.
CLEVELAND 3, MADELIA 0
MADELIA -- Madelia dropped a Valley Division volleyball match to No. 5 Cleveland in three sets on Thursday, falling 25-13, 25-15, 25-17.
Carissa Sorenson led the Blackhawks in defeat with six kills, six digs and three blocks, while Grace Tatro had five kills and five digs and Addie Odegard had three kills. Avery Tatro added 14 set assists and seven digs, while Emmy Johnson had 10 digs and Madelyn Lehman had two aces.
Madelia fell to 7-10 overall and 2-3 in the Valley and is at Mankato Loyola on Thursday, Oct. 8, for another Valley match.
LSH 3, LCWM 2
LE SUEUR -- Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial fell to Le Sueur-Henderson in five sets on Thursday in a South Central Conference volleyball match, falling 21-25, 25-16, 25-17, 14-25, 15-11.
Nev parsons led the Knights in the loss with 17 kills and 15 digs, while Maddie Madsen had eight kills and Alice Hollerich had 14 digs. Callie Mueller and Katie Hanson added three aces for LCWM.
LCWM dropped to 14-6 overall and 5-2 in the SCC and hosts Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Tuesday.
HLO/F 3, RRC 2
LAMBERTON -- Red Rock Central fell to Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda in five sets on Thursday in a Red Rock Conference volleyball match, falling 22-25, 28-26, 25-6, 19-25, 16-14.
Natasha Erickson and Lilly Batalden each had nine kills to lead RRC, with Erickson adding 24 set assists, 26 digs and two blocks. Paige Wondercheck and Victoria Pankonin each had five kills also for RRC, while Amelia Ubl had 34 digs and two aces, Kendra Schroeder had 21 digs, Halle Paplow had nine set assists.
RRC fell to 5-8 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
PREP CROSS-COUNTRY
MVL BOYS TAKE 5TH AT REDWOOD VALLEY INVITE
REDWOOD FALLS -- The Minnesota Valley Lutheran boys cross-country team finished fifth out of 10 teams on Thursday at the Redwood Valley Cross-Country Invitational at Redwood Falls Golf Club.
The boys meet was won by Redwood Valley.
The MVL girls took sixth of of eight teams. The Wabasso girls also had a full team at the meet and took fifth. Redwood Valley also won the girls meet.
MVL's Titus Kohls took second with a PR time of 16:45, while teammates Solomon Stoering (18:02.9) and Tucker Kohls (18:04.8) took 27th and 28th, respectively, which were also PR times for them as well. MVL also saw Aiden Weisensel place in the top 40 with a PR time of 18:41.4 to take 38th.
Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop didn't have a complete boys team but was led by Isaac Beckendorf (19:50.4, 52nd), while teammate Alex Vos took 61st (21:24.8). Wabasso didn't have a full boys team but was led by Camden Novak, who ran a 21:39 for 63rd.
The Wabasso girls were led by first-place finisher Elsie Leopold, who ran a 19:41,1 to win the girls race, while MVL's Faith Peters ran a PR time of 20:44.8 to take ninth. Wabasso also had Gracelyn Fogelson take 18th with a PR time of 22:03, while MVL's Natalie Matzke ran a 22:19 for 22nd. Also in the top 40 from the area was Wabasso's Isabel Plaetz (22:54.7, PR, 29th), GFW's Lucy Dvorak (23:00.9, 31st) and GFW's Kelby Bruns (23:58.8, 40th).
GIRLS SOCCER
NEW ULM 4, ST. PETER 3
ST. PETER -- New Ulm defeated St. Peter 4-3 in a Big South Conference girls soccer game to clinch an appearance in the Big South Conference Championship Game.
Jesalyn Skoglund had two goals and an assist for the Eagles, while Amelia Hinkle and Mallory Novak each had a goal. Mia Peart, Morgan Zimanski and Marlena Kral each had an assist.
New Ulm (11-1-2) hosts Southwest Minnesota Christian on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
