NEW ULM -- Minnesota Valley Lutheran swept Maple River 3-0 in a South Central Conference volleyball match on Tuesday.
Jenna Bates led the Chargers with 15 kills and nine digs, while Olivia Hammer had seven kills and 10 digs. Ellie Kaesermann had eight kills and two blocks, while Graysie Black had 31 set assists, seven digs and five aces with two blocks. Taryn Gunderson added seven digs.
MVL (15-5) plays at St. Clair on Thursday.
SPRINGFIELD 3, GFW 2
SPRINGFIELD -- Springfield edged Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 28-26, 25-14, 18-25, 19-25, 15-8 in a Tomahawk Division volleyball match on Tuesday.
Kendall Krueger led the Tigers with 15 kills and 10 digs with two aces and two blocks, while Delayna Johnson had 14 kills and three blocks. Faye Williams had 20 set assists and three aces, while Sophie Mude ahd 17 set assists. Belle Groebner had 16 digs.
Kora Schwarzrock had 19 kills for the Firebirds, while Kjerssa Jasinski had eight kills and four aces. Kinley Bruns had 21 digs, while Natalie Ahlbrecht had 14 set assists and Maren Kemkes had 11 set assists. Brynn Casper had six blocks and Lauren Schafer had five blocks.
Springfield (5-4, 4-2) plays at Red Rock Central on Friday, while GFW (3-10, 1-4) hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Thursday.

MORGAN -- Cedar Mountain swept Sleepy Eye 25-11, 25-17, 25-15 in a Tomahawk Division volleyball match on Tuesday.
Reagyn Kleinschmidt led the Cougars with 14 kills and 13 set assists, while Kendra Erickson had 11 kills and 12 set assists. Aubrey Steffl had eight digs, six aces and five kills.
Callie Evers paced the Storm with nine kills, while Kenley Jensen had five kills and five digs. Ava Kunkel had 16 set assists, and Jace Schauman had 11 digs.
Cedar Mountain (11-3, 5-0) plays at Sleepy Eye St. Mary's on Thursday, while Sleepy Eye (6-8, 3-3 hosts Wabasso on Thursday.
ST. MARY'S 3, LESTER PRAIRIE 0
SLEEPY EYE -- Sleepy Eye St. Mary's swept Lester Prairie 25-18, 25-5, 25-9 in a Tomahawk Division volleyball match on Tuesday.
Morgan Mathiowetz led the Knights with 12 kills and seven digs, while Audra Hoffmann had eight kills. Olivia Schieffert had four kills and eight digs, and Brynne Ibberson had 22 set assists.
St. Mary's (13-2, 5-0) hosts Cedar Mountain on Thursday.
NICOLLET 3, JWP 1
NICOLLET -- Nicollet downed Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 25-19, 17-25m 25-23, 25-20 in a nonconference volleyball match on Tuesday.
Madison Kettner led the Raiders with 14 kills and 24 digs, while Megan Soost had 10 kills and two blocks. Zoie Rengstorf had 24 set assists, and Lydia Martens had 26 set assists. Chloe Kachelmeier added 15 digs.
Nicollet plays at Loyola on Thursday.
CLEVELAND 3, BLHS 1
HECTOR -- Cleveland defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 25-15, 25-14, 16-25, 25-17 in a nonconference volleyball match on Tuesday.
Lily Hubin led the Mustangs with 18 kills and 28 digs, while Elsie Rudeen had 10 kills and nine digs. Addison Gee had 35 set assists and 12 digs, and Ava Hammerschmidt had 18 digs.
BLHS (5-14) plays at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Tuesday.
USC 3, MADELIA 1
WELLS -- United South Central topped Madelia 21-25, 25-21, 26-24, 25-16 in a nonconference volleyball match on Tuesday.
Grace Tatro had 10 kills and four digs for the Blackhawks, while Carissa Sorenson had eight kills, five digs and four total blocks. Avery Tatro had 26 set assists and 10 digs, and Emmy Johnson had 17 digs.
Madelia (7-9) hosts Cleveland on Thursday.
TUESDAY
GIRLS SOCCER
New Ulm defeated Tri-City United 13-0 in a Big South Conference girls soccer match on Tuesday.
Jes Skoglund scored four goals and an assist for New Ulm, while Piper Kapolczynski had two goals. Marlena Kral had two goals and an assist, while Allie Nelson had a goal and an assist, as did Morgan Zimanski. Grace Barie and Kaitlin Ries both had a goal, and Ahna Lendt had a goal in her first career varsity appearance. Molly Johnson had two assists, and Mallory Novak, Josie Nelson and Amelia Hinkle each had an assist.
New Ulm (12-1-2) plays at St. Peter on Thursday.
PREP CROSS-COUNTRY
SM/SE/NUC BOYS 2ND IN ST. JAMES
ST. JAMES -- The Sleepy Eye St. Mary's/Sleepy Eye/New Ulm Cathedral boys cross-country team took second out of five teams at the St. James Invite on Tuesday.
Fairmont won the boys race, while St. James took third, Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial/Nicollet took fourth and Madelia took fifth.
The SM/SE/NUC boys were led by Max Fischer, who took fourth with a time of 18:48.9, while teammate Levi Hagen took fifth (19:01.3). SM/SE/NUC also saw Oziel Lozano take ninth (20:13.6), while Eli Pyan took 16th (22:57.4).
Also in the top 20 boys finishers from the area was Madelia's Caleb DeCann, who took second (18:30.8), while teammate Ethan Christensen took seventh (19:24.5). LCWM/N had five boys finish in the top 20, led by Conner Thormodsgard, who ran a 20:27 to take 12th. Taylor Breitbarth took 15th (22:35.1), while Bennett Fells took 17th (23:04), Bennett VanGenderen took 18th (23:06.4) and Karl Schwartz took 19th (23:08.2).
On the girls side of the meet, Fairmont won as a team, with St. James taking second and LCWM/N placing third. Fairmont's Brooklyn Stone won the meet with a time of 21:51.5. LCWM/N's Evie Jones placed third (22:18.0), while SM/SE/NUC's Millie Lax placed fifth (23:03.6) and Emma Hagen placed sixth (23:04.0). Elizabeth Fischer placed 13th for SM/SE/NUC (24:50.2), while LCWM/N's Addy Spiess took 15th (26:09.2). Madelia's Mia Weiss placed 19th (27:21.3).
