MORRIS -- For the second time in less than a week, Heather Wendt scored an important, late goal for Martin Luther College women’s soccer to run its unbeaten run to five matches.
After scoring in the final minute of last week’s draw vs. Crown, Wendt scored the Knight’s goal in a 1-0 win at the University of Minnesota Morris on Tuesday afternoon. In the 78th minute, Morris goalkeeper CJ Frear-Boerner saved Wendt’s original shot from the left side, but she was able to convert the rebound.
"Heather was very determined on her goal to work through two defenders and the goalkeeper to secure the win," Knights head coach Tyson Zarnstorff said.
The UMAC battle was tight throughout. MLC edged out 51 percent possession and also had narrow advantages in shots, 13-9, and shots on goal, 8-6.
Zarnstorff praised his team’s ability to keep a shutout in the conference match that featured 11 fouls whistled on the Cougars.
"It was a great defensive effort today in a hard-fought game," Zarnstorff said. "It was a very physical game and the team kept working hard."

MORRIS -- Gabriel Habeck scored with less than six minutes left to salvage a 1-1 draw for the Martin Luther College men's soccer team at the University of Minnesota Morris on Tuesday afternoon.
The freshman hit a long-range shot after receiving a pass from Joshua Krenke. The ball took a nasty hop as it traveled towards the goal, deflecting past Dutch Bullock and into the Morris goal.
Habeck’s 84th minute goal goal came just 7:35 after the Cougars opened the scoring through Luis Mendez, who scored after a perfect pass from Jake Anargyros.
Morris outshot MLC 25-7, however most shots did not threaten the Knights’ goal, for only six Morris shots were on target. Nicholas Russ saved five of those attempts.
The Knights made the most of their chances, scoring on just three shots on target.

MANKATO -- The Martin Luther College volleyball team won the first set against Bethany Lutheran College on Tuesday night but couldn’t sustain the momentum, falling 3-1 on the road.
