MADELIA 3, NICOLLET 1
MADELIA -- The Madelia Blackhawks picked up their first home win of the season with a four-set win over the Nicollet Raiders on Thursday, winning 25-17, 25-20, 15-25, 25-20 in a Valley Division volleyball match.
Madelia was led by Grace Tatro, who had eight kills and two blocks, while Kendall Pietsch had eight kills and Carissa Sorenson had six kills and seven blocks. Addie Odegard added five kills and three blocks for Madelia, while Avery Tatro had 29 set assists, Emmy Johnson had 18 digs and Madelyn Lehman had 11 digs.
Nicollet was led by Madison Kettner, who had 14 kills, while Megan Soost had five kills and two aces and Brielle Osborne had five kills. Chloe Kachelmeier added nine digs, while Payten Otto had six digs, Zoie Rengstorf had 16 set assists, Lydia Martens had 12 set assists and Cheyenne Klockziem had three blocks.
Madelia (3-6, 1-1) travels to Alden for a Valley Division matchup on Tuesday, while Nicollet (2-4, 0-2) is at Gibbon to take in Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop next on Monday.
ST. MARY'S 3, GFW 1
GIBBON -- Sleepy Eye St. Mary's defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 25-13, 25-13, 19-25, 25-11 in a Tomahawk Division volleyball match on Thursday.
Audra Hoffmann had 15 kills, 10 digs and six aces for the Knights, while Morgan Mathiowetz had 11 kills and five digs. Brynne Ibberson had 22 set assists.
Kora Schwarzrock had five kills and two blocks for the Firebirds, while Kinley Bruns had 18 digs. Maren Kemkes had 11 set assists, while Chloe Henrichs had nine digs, two blocks and two aces.
St. Mary's (11-1, 3-0) hosts Cleveland on Monday, while GFW (2-2, 1-1) hosts Nicollet on Monday.
CEDAR MOUNTAIN 3, WABASSO 1
WABASSO -- Cedar Mountain downed Wabasso 20-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-23 in a Tomahawk Division volleyball match on Thursday.
Reagyn Kleinschmidt led the Cougars with 15 kills, 15 set assists, 12 digs, nine blocks and two aces, while Kendra Erickson had 11 kills, 12 set assists, nine digs and four blocks. Aubrey Steffl added eight kills and 12 digs.
Kenley Guetter had 15 kills and 11 digs with two aces for the Rabbits, while Cendyll Daub had two kills and five total blocks. Britta Brand had 19 digs, and Lanna Janerio Dolan had 20 set assists, two blocks and three aces.
Cedar Mountain (5-1, 2-0) hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday, while Wabasso (2-5, 1-2) hosts a tournament on Saturday.
SLEEPY EYE 3, SPRINGFIELD 1
SLEEPY EYE -- The Sleepy Eye Storm defeated the Springfield Tigers in four sets on Thursday, winning 25-20, 25-15, 17-25, 25-14 in a Tomahawk Division volleyball match.
Sleepy Eye was led by Callie Evers, who had 12 kills, 21 digs and two aces, while Kenley Jensen had 11 kills, six aces and five digs. Karly Wendinger added eight kills also for the Storm, while Ava Kunkel had 27 set assists and 14 digs and Jace Schauman had 16 digs.
Kendall Krueger led the Tigers with 14 kills, eight digs and two blocks, while Harlow Moody had seven kills, Gabriella Schenk had four kills and two blocks and Olivia Milbrath had four kills. Also for Springfield, Faelynn Williams had 31 set assists, three kills, two aces and six digs, while Belle Groebner added eight digs and Noelle Reese had two aces.
Sleepy Eye (5-5, 2-1) hosts Red Rock Central on Monday night in nonconference action, while Springfield (2-3, 1-2) is at the Wabasso invite on Saturday.
BOYS SOCCER
NEW ULM 3, MARSHALL 2
MARSHALL -- New Ulm topped Marshall 3-2 on Thursday night in a Big South Conference, nondivision boys soccer game.
Levi Johnson led New Ulm with two goals, while Logan Goblirsch assisted on all three New Ulm goals. Methodious Amoah added a goal also to put New Ulm up 2-1 before the half.
Brevinn Vandermause had eight saves for New Ulm in net.
New Ulm (8-2) hosts Worthington in another Big South Conference, nondivision game at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
GIRLS TENNIS
BELLE PLAINE 7, NEW ULM 0
NEW ULM -- New Ulm was shut out by Belle Plaine on Thursday in a Big South Conference girls tennis meet.
Natalie Fischer had the top performance on the day for the Eagles by forcing a third set but she fell short in the end to Nina Messer.
