ST. MARY'S TAKES FIRST, MVL TAKES THIRD AT SLEEPY EYE TOURNEY
SLEEPY EYE -- Sleepy Eye St. Mary's won the Sleepy Eye Volleyball Tournanment on Saturday, winning five matches over the course of the tournament.
St. Mary's defeated Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther 25-12, 25-14, then topped Mankato Loyola 25-19, 25-23 and Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 25-23, 25-22 to go 3-0 in pool play. The Knights then defeated Sleepy Eye 25-15, 25-19 and Loyola 25-18, 22-25, 15-12 in the championship game to win the tournament.
Audra Hoffmann had 45 kills and 35 digs in the tournament for St. Mary's, while Morgan Mathiowetz totalled 38 kills and 37 digs. Olivia Schieffert recorded 24 kills and 27 digs, while Brynne Ibberson had 79 set assists and 39 digs. Taylor Mathiowetz added 25 set assists.
Also in the tournament, Minnesota Valley Lutheran placed third with a 4-1 record. The Chargers went 3-0 in pool play, topping Sleepy Eye 25-12, 25-15, Madelia 25-19, 25-20 and Mountain Lake Area 25-22, 25-21. MVL fell to Loyola 15-25, 25-21, 10-15 in the first elimination game, but then topped Sleepy Eye 25-11, 25-21 in the third-place game.
Jenna Bates led the Chargers in the tournament with 41 kills, 41 digs and two aces, while Olivia Hammer had 18 kills, 24 digs, five aces and three blocks. Kam Davey had 17 digs and 11 blocks, and Ellie Kaeserman had 16 kills and three blocks. Graysie Black had 82 set assists, 29 digs, eight kills and seven haces, and Taryn Gunderson had 46 digs and four aces.
Madelia went 1-2 in the tournament, defeating MLA 25-10, 25-11 but falling to Sleepy Eye 19-25, 25-16 and MVL 25-19, 25-20. Addie Odegard led the Blackhawks with 13 kills and five total blocks in the tournament, while Grace Tatro had 10 kills and eight digs. Avery Tatro had 27 set assists, five digs and four aces, and Emmy Johnson had 35 digs and three aces.
No stats were reported for Sleepy Eye.

NEW ULM WINS SEVEN AT HOME INVITE
NEW ULM -- New Ulm won seven matches to place third at a home invitational on Saturday. Tri-City United won 21 matches to win the invite, while Redwood Valley won 14 matches and River Valley on six matches.
New Ulm No. 1 singles Carmen Schotzko defeated River Valley's Selene Krohnfeldt 6-3, 7-5, while No. 3 singles Avah Kruse defeated River Valley's Alexys Nelson 6-2, 6-2. No. 4 singles Maggie Joyce defeated River Valley's Morgan Arsnorf 6-3, 6-3. No. 1 doubles Lilly Rieger and Brielle Evans defeated Redwood Valley's Iris Vogland and Ellery Larsen 6-3, 6-3 and River Valley's Jasmine Robertson and Alayna Beyer 7-5, 2-6, 10-3, and No. 2 doubles Elanor Grathwohl and Annika Wyffels topped Redwood Valley's Elle Iverson and Emma Linsmeier 7-5, 1-6, 10-7 and River Valley's Bronwyn Sorenson and Delaney Rex 6-4, 6-4.
River Valley's No. 2 singles Chloe Okerman defeated New Ulm's Natalie Fischer 6-4, 7-5 and TCU's Reagan Stefffen 6-4, 6-4. No 1 doubles Jasmine Robertson and Alayna Beyer defeated Redwood Valley's Iris Vogland and Ellery Larson 6-3, 4-6, 10-1, and No. 3 doubles Reagan Moody and Randee Dombek topped Redwood Valley's Harper Helgeson and Yazmin Nunez 6-2, 6-4. and New Ulm's Ellie Martinka and Teegan Schmiesing 6-4, 6-4.
