Eagles pour on offense against Wings

NEW ULM -- The New Ulm Eagles offense was relentless Thursday in a nonconference girls soccer match, downing Wings United 9-1 with six different New Ulm players scoring a goal during the match.
Morgan Zimanski was the only Eagles player to score twice, while Semira Dorschner, Molly Johnson, Mollie Mia Peart, Yessi Fernandez and Kaitlyn Ries each had a goal. The other New Ulm goal of the game came on an own goal as a Wings United defender was attempting to defend a crosser from New Ulm's Grace Barie.
"[We are] lifting the intensity," Zimanski said. "You always have to have a high intensity. You've got to bring up, the team and work on possession, because you've got to go backwards to go forwards. Just keeping up the intensity."
Peart scored the first goal of the game for New Ulm in just the second minute, sending a rebounded shot from Amelia Hinkle to the back of the net. Zimanski scored her first goal in the seventh minute from 25 yards out, then Molly Johnson scored on another rebounded shot from Peart, sneaking the ball in the bottom left corner of the net for a 3-0 lead in the 16th minute. Zimanski scored her second goal of the game on a shot that crossed all the way from outside the goalie box left of the goal to the opposite side of goal, bouncing off the pole and in for a 4-0 lead in the 22nd minute. Board closed out the first-half scoring with a goal in the 27th minute and a 5-0 advantage.
Ries continued the onslaught 10 minutes into the second half, taking the ball muscling the ball through the Wings United defense and scoring for a 6-0 lead. Wings United got its only goal on a high, bouncing kick that flew just outside of New Ulm goalkeeper Greta Berger's reach, but New Ulm came back with a goal by Dorschner, assisted by Peart, as she cleaned up a mess in front of the net in the 51st minute. The own goal came next with eight minutes to play in the game, and finally Fernandez made a shot to close out the 9-1 rout in the 77th minute.
New Ulm (2-1) hosts Jordan on Saturday at 12 p.m.
