JORDAN - The Brownton Bruins opened the Class C Minnesota State Amateur Baseball Tournament with a 4-2 win over the Waseca Braves on Friday night at the Mini Met.
Tied at 2-all entering the eighth, the Bruins led off the inning with a walk to Dylan Schwarzrock before a double by Scott Finberg moved him to third. Nathan Schultz then reached on an error on a dropped sac fly to bring in Schwarzrock for the go-ahead run. Taylor Schuette, a 2006 McLeod West grad, added a sac fly moments later with one out for the final score of the night.
Andy Prieve led the Brownton bats, going 3 for 5 with two doubles, while Schwarzrock was 2 for 4 with an RBI and Ryan Grams was 2 for 4 with a double. Cole Mathews earned a complete-game win and allowed two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out six.
Waseca was led by Tyson Reger, who was 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI, while Payton Garza was 1 for 4 with an RBI. Reger pitched eight innings in the loss and allowed four runs, three earned, on eight hits and one walk while striking out eight.
