Brewers earn third seed in Class A Tourney

ROCHESTER - The New Ulm Brewers defeated the Rochester Royals 5-2 in 11 innings in the Section 1A Amateur Baseball Tournament to claim the third seed in the section for the Class A State Tournament.

Tate Becker got the win for New Ulm, striking out five and and allowing no runs on four hits in 2 2/3 innings. Sam Keckeisen made the start, striking out one and allowing one run on 10 hits in 7 1/3 innings. At the plate, Cole Ranweiler was 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Ayden Jensen and Keckeisen each had a hit and an RBI.

After going 10 innings without a decision, New Ulm put up three runs in the top of the 11th inning, with Jensen driving in one run with a single, then Ranweiler and Jensen both scoring on a wild pitch. Becker struck out two in the bottom of the inning to help seal the win.

New Ulm now faces the Minnetonka Monarchs in a 4 p.m. game in Chaska in the opening round of the state tournament. Minnetonka is the third seed from Section 4A.
