ARLINGTON -- A beautiful night for racing action found lots of happy kids for the Back-to-School Kids Night, as backpacks and school items were dispersed throughout the night to over 140 kids.
There were three different leaders in the 12-lap Jerry's HQ Foods Auto Cross feature with Riley Bussler taking the lead. Soon Mitchel Boese was on his tail and the two raced around lapped traffic but by Lap 5 Bussler got caught up in a caution flag and ended his night. Then Boese was the new leader but Colten Landwer was making strides behind him and staying out of trouble to take the lead from Boese on the eighth lap. Cole Salisbury started last in the 17-car field and could see everyone in front of him making mistakes while he moved forward. With two laps to go, he had passed 16 cars to gain the second position from Boese. In the end Landwer finished in first, Salisbury in second and Boese in third.
Mason Goettl was the early leader in the Jack Pines Resort IMCA Hobby feature, holding off hard-charging Cory Probst and Chad Volk for eight laps. Then a series of caution flags came out for spinning cars and both those drivers were able to gain spots on the restarts. Probst and Volk were dueling each other for the top spot but it was Probst who came out the winner. Volk took second and Goettl held on for third.
Jerry Coopman was victorious in the Coors Light IMCA Sport Compact feature, leading nine laps out of 10. His contender was son Nate as he had moved up eight spots to challenge Jerry Coopman. In the end, Jerry Coopman took second and Nate Coopman took second ahead of Alan Lahr.
Mark Oestreich took the lead in the Olson Snowplowing & Lawn Care Outlaw feature from his pole position start both Jesse Anderson and Rod Manthey directly behind him. Several cars left the track surface with engine problems during the race. The first was Jared Salisbury, the next one was Craig Groebner. By then Anderson had control of the race as another caution came out when the cars of Dustin Theuringer and Aric Rolf got together in Turn #2. On the restart, Anderson again took the lead and this time he had the 3k of Karl Hewitt to contend with. He was able to hold him off the remaining laps to win the race. Hewitt took second and the 96 of Aaron Simons took third place.
The Arlington State Bank IMCA No Sport Modified feature was marred with caution flags. Early leader Jeff Lloyd led the first eight laps with Zach Davis following him, the following lap Davis got around Lloyd to take over the lead. Then the yellow flags ending the night for five cars. On the white flag lap, Lloyd was tailing Davis and was involved in a mishap which ended the night for him, Ben Reierson and Cole Hesse all at the same time. The finishing lap saw Davis take the checkers ahead of Eric Larson and Chris Neisen following in third.
Logan Domagala was the driver to beat in the Rice Companies IMCA Sprint feature as he led the entire distance in the caution free uneventful race to win his first feature at Arlington. Andrew Allen started behind him in the original line up and passed brother Dalton Domagala on the first lap to take second place. He tried closing in on Logan but couldn't get it down and took second ahead of Dalton at the checkers.
Curt Lund was piloting the #99 Ottomotive Tire & Repair IMCA Modified and took the lead right off. By the third time around, JJ Reimers had dug down and took the lead but the following lap Lund regained it. Chad Porter was seesawing around drivers to gain positions but he was also contending with Trent Loverude and Matt Looft for spots. Loverude moved up eight spots and inherited the lead when Lund had troubles which ended his night. Loverude was the new leader and held off Looft and Porter as those two drivers kept swapping positions. In the end, Loverude won the race, Looft took second and Porter took third ahead Dan Menk.
A first-lap mishap occurred in the B&B Racing Chassis IMCA Stock Car feature when cars got together in Turn #4 and put Dave Moriarty and Randy Melvin in the pit area with damage. A complete restart put AJ Zimmerman in the lead but he had hot competition from Shaun Bruns and Curt Lund. Those three cars raced each lap by lap with Lund always in the lead. With five laps to go, Josh Larsen, who started sixth and stayed out of trouble, moved into third place ahead of Zimmerman and that is where they finished. Lund won the race, Bruns took second, Larson third and Zimmerman held on for fourth.
