Post 7 falls to LSH in state opener

GLENWOOD -- Sleepy Eye Senior Legion took a 7-1 loss to Le Sueur-Henderson in the first round of the DII Senior Legion State Tournament on Friday.

Sleepy Eye drops to the consolation bracket, where they will face the loser of a game between Ada and Glenwood-Lowry at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Merrick Mathiowetz took the loss for Sleepy Eye, striking out four and allowing five runs, three earned, on two hits in five innings. At the plate for Post 7, Mathiowetz was 2 for 3, while Ethan Schwartz had a hit and an RBI. Karter Haala had two steals.

LSH took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Sleepy Eye was able to tie it up with a Schwartz single in the second inning. LSH made it a 2-1 game with a run in the third inning, and neither team scored in the fourth inning. However, LSH put up two runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth inning to go up 7-1. Sleepy Eye was unable to muster a baserunner in the top of the seventh to take the loss.
