MONDAY

SLEEPY EYE 10, ST. CLAIR 0 (6 INNINGS)

RUTHTON — Derek Wales struck out 12 and the Sleepy Eye Junior Legion baseball team’s offense did more than enough to shut out St. Clair 10-0 on Monday night in the second round of the American Junior Legion Division II Southwest Sub-State Baseball Tournament.

The game ended in six innings due to the 10-run lead rule after Sleepy Eye scored three in the bottom of the sixth, with Gus Hoffmann singling in the game-ending run.

Wales finished his shutout by pitching all six innings, allowing just four hits and no walks. Landry Folkens led Sleepy Eye at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored, while Wales was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Karter Haala was 1 for 2 with two walks and two runs scored also for Sleepy Eye, while Jaxon Saenz was 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs.

The win moves Sleepy Eye on to the semifinals Tuesday where it takes on Lake Crystal at 7 p.m.

SPRINGFIELD 15, RTR 3 (5 INNINGS)

RUTHTON — Springfield rolled by Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 15-3 on Monday in an elimination bracket game of the American Junior Legion Division II Southwest Sub-State Baseball Tournament.

The game ended in six innings due to the 10-run lead rule after Springfield scored three runs in the sixth on a three-run homer by Ely Streich. Springfield pitcher Wyatt Mueller then pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth.

Thomas Hesse was 2 for 3 with two triples and five RBIs for Springfield, while Ely Streich was 2 for 3 with two homers and four RBIs. Thomas Beers also was 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI for Springfield. Mueller allowed six hits and two walks for three runs, two earned, in six innings while striking out six.

The win moves Springfield on in the elimination bracket, where it will play St. Clair at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday back in Ruthton.

SUNDAY

SLEEPY EYE 1, ADRIAN 0

RUTHTON — Karter Haala put the Sleepy Eye Junior Legion baseball team on his back Sunday in the first round of the American Junior Legion Division II Southwest Sub-State Baseball Tournament, getting the complete-game win on the mound and the walk-off hit to give his team a 1-0 win over Adrian.

Haala allowed just one hit in his seven innings of work and struck out 16. He was 2 for 4 with his walk-off RBI single. Jaxon Saenz was 2 for 2 with a walk and a run scored for Sleepy Eye also.

The win moved Sleepy Eye on to Monday night’s second-round game against St. Clair.

SLAYTON 5, SPRINGFIELD 2

RUTHTON — Springfield fell to Slayton 5-2 on Sunday in the first round of the American Junior Legion Division II Southwest Sub-State Baseball Tournament.

The loss dropped Springfield to the elimination bracket, where it played and beat Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on Monday.

Against Slayton, Springfield was led by Thomas Beers, who was 2 for 3, while Camden Guhlke was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Max Moriarty took the loss in five innings, allowing five runs, two earned, on seven hits and three walks while striking out five.

SATURDAY

WAYZATA 8, NEW ULM 6 (GAME 2)

NEW ULM — The New Ulm Junior Legion Gold split a junior legion baseball doubleheader with Wayzata on Saturday, winning the first game 5-1 before falling 8-6 in the second game.

In Game 1, Ryler Collins got the mound win in four innings, allowing two hits and one walk for no runs while striking out three. Owen Castlemann was 2 for 4 for the Junior Gold, while Noah Gode, Evan Starke and Collins each had a hit and an RBI.

In Game 2, Parker Ranweiler took the loss in two innings, allowing two runs on one hit and three walks. Kaden Stueber led New Ulm at the plate, going 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Collins was 2 for 4. Miles Castleman and Porter Jensen each had a hit and an RBI also, with Jensen’s hit being a double.

New Ulm begins Sub-State G playoffs in Marshall on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. against Marshall.
