GIBBON 9, SEARLES 7

GIBBON — The Gibbon Reds countered a Searles Grizzlies comeback with one of their own on Sunday as an eighth-inning rally helped give the Reds a 9-7 win in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

Dominic Rose had a strong start on the hill for the Reds, not allowing a hit through his first five innings before the Grizzlies got to him in the sixth. He finished a no decision with 5 1/3 innings of work, allowing three hits and four walks for four earned runs while striking out 10. Nolan Huiras got the win in 3 2/3 innings of relief, allowing five hits and three walks for three runs, two earned, while striking out three.

At the plate for Gibbon, Rose was 2 for 5 with a solo homer and two runs scored, while Huiras was 2 for 4 with a walk and an RBI and Josh Wasmund was 1 for 2 with two RBIs, two walks and two runs scored. Also for the Reds, Ethan Schwarzrock was 2 for 5 and Kyle Mauer was 1 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.

Nick Dewanz took the loss in relief for Searles, going 2 2/3 innings and allowing three hits for three unearned runs while striking out two. Kolton Achman got the start and went five innings, allowing six hits and five walks for four earned runs while striking out four.

At the plate for the Grizzlies, Collin Helget was 2 for 4 with a walk and an RBI, while Kasey Kuck was 2 for 5 with two RBIs. Graham Glaser also doubled, walked and drove in three runs for the Grizzlies, while Tony Geiger had a double, a walk and an RBI.

With the Reds up 4-0 and Rose rolling through five, the Grizzlies turned things around with a five-run sixth inning to knock Rose off the mound and take a 5-4 lead. After Isaiah Rieser led off the sixth with a double, a one-out double by Geiger got the Grizzlies on the board. Kuck singled in another run before Mark Schommer walked and Helget singled to load the bases for Glaser, who cleared them with a three-run double to lead 5-4.

Kuck singled in the seventh to extend the Grizzlies’ lead to 6-4, but Gibbon made its own comeback in the eighth with two outs. With two runners on thanks to an error and a single, Huiras singled in a run to have the Reds down 6-5 before another error loaded the bases for Wasmund, who was hit by a pitch to tie the game. A balk allowed Huiras to score the go-ahead run before a wild pitch and an error gave Gibbon a 9-6 lead.

Helget singled in a run in the ninth with two outs, but a flyout ended the game.

Gibbon moved to 6-8 in the TEL with the win, while Searles fell to 5-9 in league play.

LEAVENWORTH 15, ST. JAMES 3 (7 INNINGS)

LEAVENWORTH — Jevan Richert and Caden Evers powered the Leavenworth Orioles to a 15-3 rout of the St. James Athletics on Sunday afternoon in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

The game ended in seven innings due to the 10-run lead rule.

While the Orioles outhit the A’s just 9-6 in the game, extra-base hits and the long ball played a big part in the Orioles’ win.

The A’s also had a rough day of it in the field, committing seven errors to the Orioles’ one.

Richert led the Orioles at the plate by going 3 for 5 with a homer and five RBIs, his home run being a three-run one to walk the game off early in the bottom of the seventh. Evers was 2 for 3 with a homer, a double and three RBIs. Dylan Hillesheim also was 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI for Leavenworth, while Jackson Ludewig was 1 for 3 with a double, two walks, an RBI and three runs scored.

Mark Anderson pitched all seven innings for the Orioles to grab the win, allowing six hits and four walks for three earned runs while striking out 13.

For the A’s, Joe Hager was 2 for 2 with a walk, while Max Westman was 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Hager also took the loss in six innings, allowing seven hits and four walks for 12 runs, two earned, while striking out one.

The Orioles scored three runs apiece in the first and second innings before adding two more in the third on an error for a prompt 8-0 lead. St. James got it’s three runs in the top of the fourth on a Westman RBI double, an RBI groundout by Connor Jones and a Hager RBI single.

An RBI single in the sixth by Alex Sellner put the Orioles up 9-3 before Evers connected for a three-run homer to right to make it 12-3.

In the bottom of the seventh, Brandon Tauer drew a leadoff walk and Hillesheim singled. Jones, now pitching in relief, forced a flyout, but Richert stepped up and homered to right to end the game early.

Leavenworth moved to 7-7 in TEL play, while St. James dropped to 3-11.

NEW ULM 13, STARK 10

STARK — The New Ulm Brewers won a high-scoring affair over the Stark Longhorns on Sunday evening, holding off a late Stark rally to win 13-10 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

After the Brewers scored five runs in the second to extend their early lead to 9-1, the Longhorns got those five runs back in the bottom of the second to trail 9-6. New Ulm got three more runs in the third and one more in the fourth before three scoreless innings followed. Stark got four runs back in the bottom of the fourth and got two runners on in the ninth with back-to-back two-out singles from Brandon Helget and Kam Kosak, but reliever Wade French got the final out of the game on a fielder’s choice.

Mitch Bockenstedt got the win for New Ulm in six innings, allowing seven hits and three walks for six unearned runs while striking out nine. French allowed five hits and three walks for five earned runs in three innings of relief while fanning one.

JT Hoffmann led the Brewers’ 13-hit attack by going 5 for 5 with a walk, two RBIs and three runs scored, while Jace Schaefer was 2 for 4 with a walk and two RBIs and Tate Becker was 2 for 5 with a walk and three RBIs. Also for the Brewers, Sam Keckeisen was 1 for 4 with two walks, an RBI and three runs scored, Lucas Suess was 1 for 4 with three RBIs, French was 1 for 4 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored and Ayden Jensen was 1 for 5 with a double and two runs scored.

Zach Haala took the loss for Stark in 1 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits and five walks for nine earned runs while striking out one. He also led the Longhorns at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a grand slam, a walk, five RBIs and two runs scored, while Nick Labat was 2 for 4 with two walks and two runs scored, Helget was 2 for 4 with a walk and a run scored, Kosak was 2 for 5 with a run scored and Dusty Mangen was 1 for 2 with a solo homer.

New Ulm moved to 13-1 in the TEL with the win, while Stark dropped to 6-8 in league play.

HANSKA 6, SLEEPY EYE 3

SLEEPY EYE — Despite a ninth-inning rally that saw the Sleepy Eye Indians score all of its three runs in the game, the Hanska Lakers did enough damage earlier at the plate and held on for a 6-3 win in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

Alex Portner got the win for Hanska in 8 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and six walks for three unearned runs while striking out two. Colin Anderson got the final out of the game on a strikeout after allowing a hit.

Sam Knowles led the Lakers at the plate, going 2 for 3 with two RBIs, while Sawyer Olson was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Jake Finstad was 2 for 6 with two doubles. Brock Wellmann also was 1 for 3 with a walk and two RBIs for the Lakers, while Evan Blekestad drew two walks.

Nick Mielke took the loss in six innings, allowing six hits and three walks for three runs, two earned, while striking out one. At the plate for Sleepy Eye, Sam Tessmer was 1 for 2 with two walks and an RBI, while Owen Weiss was 1 for 4 with an RBI and Luke Mielke drew two walks and had an RBI.

Hanska took a 2-0 lead in the fourth on RBI singles from Anderson and Wellmann and made it a 3-0 lead in the fifth on an RBI single from Knowles. Knowles grounded into a fielder’s choice in the seventh to score a run before a sac fly from Olson made it a 5-0 for Hanska.

A sac fly from Wellmann in the top of the ninth put Hanska up 6-0, giving Sleepy Eye one more shot to rally. An error allowed Jon Petermann to lead off the bottom of the ninth by taking first, while Matt Mielke walked and Nick Mielke singled to load the bases. A bases-loaded walk to Luke Mielke got Sleepy Eye on the board before a flyout and strikeout gave the Indians just one more out in the game to work with. A bases-loaded walk to Tessmer made it 6-2 and a Weiss RBI single made it 6-3 before Anderson got a strikeout to end the game.

Hanska improved to 12-2 in the TEL with the win, while Sleepy Eye fell to 5-9 in league play.

LAMBERTON 4, ESSIG 3

LAMBERTON — Kyle Krzmarzick’s sac fly in the eighth was enough to get the job done for the Lamberton Long Sox on Sunday as they held off the Essig Bluejays 4-3 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

Essig tied the game with three runs in the seventh, but Krzmarzick’s sac fly in the bottom of the eighth did the trick in the end.

Quintyn Vold pitched seven innings and struck out 12 for Lamberton for the no decision. Hudsen Jenniges got the win in two innings of relief, striking out three.

No statistics were reported for Essig.

Lamberton moved to 9-5 in the TEL with the win, while Essig fell to 3-12 in league play.

FRIDAY

SPRINGFIELD 16, SLEEPY EYE 3 (7 INNINGS)

SPRINGIELD — The Springfield Tigers poured it on Friday night for a 16-3 win over the Sleepy Eye Indians in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

The game ended in seven innings due to the 10-run lead rule.

Russell Beers led Springfield at the plate, going 3 for 5 with two RBIs, while Noah Neperman was 2 for 3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored and Brandon Wilhelmi was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored. MaCoy Krick was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs also for the Tigers.

Neperman got the win in five innings, allowing five hits and two walks for two runs, one earned, while striking out four. Tyler Dick pitched two innings in relief for the Tigers and allowed no hits and one walk for one unearned run while striking out three.

Jake Mielke and Kaleb Butenhoff each went 1 for 2 to lead Sleepy Eye at the plate, while Owen Weiss was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Derek Nachreiner and Nick Mielke also each had a single for Sleepy Eye.

Weiss took the loss for Sleepy Eye in 2 1/3 innings, allowing nine hits and a walk for 13 earned runs while striking out one.

Springfield moved to 9-6 in TEL play with Friday’s win.
