Berkner, Altermatt, Schmiesing, Evers highlight All-Journal Softball

FIRST TEAM

Taylor Berkner, Sr., P, Sleepy Eye

The 2026 Tomahawk Division Player of the Year, Berkner holds the majority of pitching and hitting records at Sleepy Eye after a stellar career. This season, she struck out 189 batters in 141 2/3 innings with a 3.06 ERA in the circle and putting up a 16-8 record. At the plate, Berkner was even more impressive season, batting .597 with 46 hits, 12 doubles, a triple, eight home runs, 38 RBIs and 28 runs scored while striking out just three times all year. The senior is a three-time All-Section player, a four-time All-Conference player, and earned an All-State Honorable Mention this year. For her career, Berkner finishes with 160 hits, 17 home runs and 131 RBIs at the plate while collecting 45 wins and 566 strikeouts in 416 2/3 innings pitched.

Jayde Altermatt, Fr., P, Cathedral

Altermatt put in another stellar season for the Greyhounds this year, earning her second All-Conference selection, third All-Section selection and first All-State Honorable Mention. The freshman moved to pitcher full time this year, striking out 221 batters with a 1.23 ERA and a .154 batting average allowed, allowing just a .797 WHIP with 10 shutouts and four no hitters with a 21-4 record. At the plate, Altermatt was second on the team in RBIs (21) and third in hits (24) and doubles (8) with a .279 batting average. Altermatt surpassed 400 career strikeouts this season, pushing her total to 467 through her freshman season.

Lauren Schmiesing, Sr., SS, New Ulm

The number three hitter for New Ulm, Schmiesing led the team in batting average with .540, recording 23 runs scored and 21 RBIs. The star senior also had eight doubles and stole 19 bases. Despite having her season cut short with a broken collarbone after 17 games, Schmiesing still earned an All-Conference and All-State Second Team selection. She started four years for the Eagles and was the anchor of the defense at shortstop.

Callie Evers, So., SS, Sleepy Eye

An All-State Second Team player this year, Evers put up a .521 batting average with 38 hits, 11 doubles, two triples and seven home runs at the plate. The surging sophomore added 32 RBIs and 36 runs scored while striking out just four times. Evers earned her second All-Conference selection this year and already has over 100 career hits as a sophomore.

Gracie Baker, Jr., C, New Ulm

A .500 batter for the Eagles, Baker led the team in runs scored with 33 while hitting six doubles, three triples and a home run. The junior catcher added 17 RBIs and 24 stolen bases with an on-base percentage of .560. She was especially efficient at the beginning of games, batting .708 in the first at-bat of games and putting pressure on opposing defenses with her speed.

Taylor Mathiowetz, Jr., SS/P, St. Mary’s

Mathiowetz was the team leader for the Knights this year, leading the team in batting average (.493), slugging percentage (.623), hits (34), walks (14) and struck out the fewest times (3). She also recorded three triples, a home run, 189 RBIs and four steals. Of St. Marys’ five double plays this season, Mathiowetz was a part of every single one. She also pitched 47 innings, going 4-3 and striking out 52 with a 2.83 ERA and a .152 batting average allowed. The standout shortstop and pitcher earned an All-Conference, All-Section and All-State Second Team nomination for her play this year.

Macy Rohlik, Sr., 3B, Wabasso

An All-Conference and All-State selection this year, Rohlik led the team in batting averaged (.471), hits (41) and runs scored (34), helping to lead the team to 19 wins this year. She added 12 doubles, a triple, a home run and 24 RBIs with 11 stolen bases to just seven strikeouts.

Leah Wilson, Fr., DH, Cathedral

Wilson forced her way into Cathedral’s starting lineup this year, batting leadoff and leading the team in batting average (.468), doubles (10), home runs (4), runs scored (37) and on-base percentage (.533). She also ended up third in RBIs (20), earning All-Conference and All-Section nods for her play this year.

Aylah Jenniges, Sr., P, Wabasso

Jenniges earned an All-State Honorable Mention to go with her All-Conference selection, going 16-5 as a pitcher with 92 strikeouts and a 2.48 ERA. She also put up a .378 batting average with 28 hits, a home run, 24 runs scored and a team-best 14 stolen bases.

SECOND TEAM

Jaelynn Schauman, Sr., CF, Sleepy Eye

Schauman was an All-Conference player and All-State Honorable Mention in her senior season, posting a .440 batting average with 33 hits, six doubles, three triples and seven home runs. She also had 25 RBIs and 34 runs scored in her third year as a starter for Sleepy Eye.

Megan Brudelie, Jr., P/DP, New Ulm

A steady presence in New Ulm’s lineup, Brudelie batted .453 with six doubles and 10 RBIs this year. She scored 12 times and had seven stolen bases as well. In the circle, Brudelie settled into her first varsity season with a 5.56 ERA and improved as the season progressed.

Taylor Wilking, Jr., RF, Nicollet

Wilking was an All-Conference and All-State Honorable Mention player this year, leading the team in batting average at .354. The junior right fielder put up four doubles and four triples with 16 RBIs and 15 runs scored. Her triple in the eighth inning against eventual Class A state champion United South Central helped the Raiders claim a 1-0 victory in the Section 2A Tournament this year.

Ava Schmid, Sr., CF, Cathedral

A three-year starter for Cathedral, Schmid was strong defensively while being the cleanup hitter in the lineup. Schmid posted a .325 batting average, second on the team, and led the team in RBIs with 29 while having the fewest strikeouts with eight in an All-Conference season. She also used her speed to tie the team lead in steals with nine and powered her way to three home runs. Schmid finishes her career with 97 hits and six home runs.

Delaina Eis, So., UT/P Wabasso

Eis was a threat at the plate this season, putting up a .452 average with 38 hits, seven doubles, three triples and two home runs. She added 25 RBIs, 25 runs scored and five stolen bases in an All-Conference season. Eis’s flexibility was huge for the Rabbits, including as a pitcher, where she went 3-2 with 23 strikeouts and a 1.53 ERA.

Jazmyn Goettlicher, Fr., C, Nicollet

Goettlicher was always a threat to go deep at the plate, hitting six home runs during the season, including one against New Ulm Cathedral in the Section 2A Tournament. The freshman catcher batted .309 with six doubles, a team-best 25 RBIs and 26 runs scored, and eight stolen bases in an All-Conference, All-Section season.

Natalie Fischer, So., LF, New Ulm

An All-Conference player for New Ulm, Fischer led the team in RBIs with 25 while posting a .392 batting average. She added 12 doubles, a triple, a home run and 15 runs scored with a .549 on base percentage. Defensively, Fischer showed flexibility, moving around from her usual left field position if needed.

Grace Onken, Jr., C, MVL

Onken was the leadoff hitter for the Chargers this year, posting a .380 batting average with 19 hits in an All-Conference season. The junior catcher added eight RBIs and 13 runs scored, bringing consistency and confidence to the MVL lineup.

Jace Schauman, Jr., C, Sleepy Eye

As Sleepy Eye’s leadoff hitter, Schauman was an All-Conference Honorable Mention this year. She hit .359 with 28 hits, six doubles, two triples and three home runs while scoring 32 runs. Schauman posted career highs in average, hits, extra base hits, RBIs and run scored.
