SLEEPY EYE — The Sleepy Eye Junior Legion baseball team dominated Saturday with a pair of wins in a split doubleheader, defeating Luverne 14-4 and Springfield 11-1.

Both games ended early due to the 10-run lead rule.

In the win over Luverne, Derek Walkes was 2 for 3 with an RBI, while Keeyan Netzke was 1 for 2 with a three-run home run. Mason Mathiowetz was also 1 for 2 with a double and two RBIs, while Adam Braulick was 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Karter Haala got the pitching win in four innings, allowing seven hits and two walks for four runs, one earned, while fanning five. Wales pitched a scoreless fifth, striking out one without allowing any hits or walks.

In the win over Springfield, Sleepy Eye was led by Jared Portner, who was 2 for 2 with three runs scored, while Wales was 2 for 4 with a triple and four RBIs, Jaxon Saenz was 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and Netzke was 1 for 3 with a double. Eric Lozano pitched five innings and got the win, allowing two hits and two walks for no runs while striking out four.

Ely Streich was 2 for 2 to lead Springfield, while Paxton Runck took the pitching loss in four innings, allowing five hits and two walks for six runs, two earned, while striking out two.

LEGION BASEBALL

SPRINGFIELD 5, LUVERNE 1

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Post 257 beat Luverne 5-1 on Saturday in a legion baseball game.

Eli Heglund got the complete-game win on the mound for Post 257, allowing five hits and no walks for one unearned run while striking out two. Adiel Trevino was 2 for 3 to lead Springfield at the plate.
